What is Your Favorite Beer and Why?

Recommended Posts

mmm....beer

For starters, I've had #7 and #24 on this list.

RateBeer Top 50

If anyone can get a hold of a couple bottles of the #1 beer on that list, and would be willing to either trade or ship them to me (at my expense of course)...please PM me.

One of my favorite styles is the India Pale Ale or IPA, and the Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA is my favorite so far.

I also have a bottle of the 120 Minute IPA in my fridge. That's getting saved for a special occasion though...because the bottle cost $10 and it's 21% ABV.

I like a variety of other styles, but some of the strong ales and barley wines I have a hard time swallowing.

Some other favorites include:

Hoegaarden

Blue Moon

Guinness

Rogue Shakespeare Stout

Dragonmead Final Absolution

Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse

Young's Double Chocolate Stout

Bells Oberon Ale

I'm sure that I am forgetting some here. There are many that I want to try; including some of the "Extreme Beers" by Samuel Adams, e.g. Utopias.

I've also made my own Mead, and it turned out quite good.

You have not listed any BEERs in that list, they're all Lager.

In America, they seem to call most drinks "Beer" unlike Europe, I think that's why the confusion.

They're all Lagers in Europe, real beers are the best but don't seem to suit USA's taste buds so they tend to have mostly Lagers.

Guiness is BEST, even better when drunk in Ireland ... and heaven when drunk at the place it's brewed ;)

Depends what mood i'm in really. Usually Stella when i'm at the pub or a bar, or i'll drink pernod & lemonade on special occasions (get's me so drunk, but the hangovers are terrible).

I did however have some cans of carlsberg export the other night - very nice!

Chimay, if you give it a try you'll know why!

It's expensive though :-(

Chimay is a nice trappist beer ... as a Belgian I have to say that there is not a single good beer on that list.

I would consider most of those **** ... Heineken, bud? yikes!

If you like beer I would suggest trying Westmalle Triple. I recently moved to Curacao to work here and i managed to buy Westmalle triple here for a rather good price. It's been chosen best overall beer last year... this year it was chosen best trappist. West Fleteren, also a trappist beer, was chosen best overal beer of 2005.

The problem is that you would only be able to get it close to Belgium since it's a none commercial beer still produced by trappist monks. You'll have to drive up to the abbey to get some. Some good beer cafe's will serve them. West Fleteren 12 is great for on a warm summer day but i prefer the 8 during winters.

any beer/lager/whateveryouwanttocallyour-Saccharomyces cerevisiae-brewed-drink, I prefer any beer in a dark/colored glass, those with clear/transparent have been more chemically altered to withstand more light, temperature, etc...

Well since I forgot to post which is my favorite, here it is:

Sam Adams. Here's some photos I just took right now of a bottle I just opened. Why I like this beer? Take a look at that foam head. It is awesome. The bigger and longer lasting the foam head is, the better it tastes. Bartenders often pour beer down the side to minimize the head. But a thick foamy head allows the flavor to blossom. Always pour your beer right down the middle until the glass is half full. Let the head rise, then slowly continue pouring. You will taste the difference.

If I was ever served a beer/larger like that, I'd punch the ****. :|

Anyway, as you can see from my sig, I like Stella. (which is a larger, obviously) Nice and crisp, with a kick :)

Oh yeah, Vodka is my other poison. I won't mention the rest

Its actually called Honey Weiss, but Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss and Apple Spice Are really good too.
