infoman
i am considering to buy a Lite-On LTR-48125W 48/12/48 CD-RW but i am not so sure. i am looking for quality @ the first place (should be easily read by dumpest CD-Rom) than the speed. (here no one i know uses it so i have no idea about the writer) my other choice is Asus CRW-3212A and they differ in price just 10$. Which one do you prefer ? JohnSK
I have the 40x LiteON, modded it by flashing in a 48x firmware and voila, I have a 48x burner for the price of a 40x one - and it workx like a charm, can copy any game protections (including SafeDisc 2.5x)... GET THE LITEON! :)
Wam7
I would go with the LiteOn. They are very good burners. A friend used to have problems with SVCD's he used to master so that he could only burn them at 4x-8x so that they would play OK on stand alone DVD players. This was with several different brand of writers. With the Liteon he can now burn at 32X and has no problems with any of his SVCD's. He was amazed to say the least. Troop101
Lite-on is a much better choice. Ive used heaps and i own one and they are probably the best burners out.

I don't think you are asking me, but I can give you the answers you need. You need to use mtkflash to flash the firmware (bin's, not exe) And you can either use VS02, VS04, or VS06. Most people I know are using VS02 because it gives better results overall. As for the last question. No, for the 40x ones, both 'S' and 'W' can be flashed. It was only the 32x 'W' and not the 'S' being able to be "upgraded"
infoman
i have got few more questions: now the dealer says thay haven't got any 48x in their stocks. they offered me 40/12/48 version. what is the difference between LTR-40125W and LTR-40125S ? does this one has Mt.Rainier support (Liteon site says yes but cdrlabs.com review says no !) and should i buy this 40X one or Asus 32x ? lawtai
I'd get the lite-on. I've got a 12x10x32x and it's worked great for me.
YahoKa
I'd go for the lite-on. Asus isn't a name i trust in the optical market yet. I am gonna buy an LG over a lite on, but that's just me.

'S' has an official firmware flash to enable Mt. Rainier support. But the 'W' can also be flashed using mtkflash to support Mt. Rainier too.
