Proper CPU Operating Temperature

Recommended Posts

Hey!

I have 2 PIII 1.13 GHZ CPU's running at 91 and 95 Degrees Farenheit. What is the Optimal/maximum temp they should be at? Also is 95 acceptable? i seached intel's site and blah :(

i cant offer any numbers for you, but here's a number for you to compare. My P4 2.0A is currently running at 35 C / 95 F in a slightly A/C'd room. So my guess your processors should run a bit cooler than that.

WHAT!!! :o :o :o :s :D

DAMN!!!, my Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53Ghz) is running at 42C which should be about 112F, How the hell your CPU so hot? DAMN!!!

63C is a little high, but there aren't really any problems with you running your comp like that. I run my t-bird at about 60C but I can get all the way up to like 70C depending on if it's really hot that day (non A/C room). I wouldn't worry too much about running at 63C though.

yeah, my new 1700 XP+ runs around 60 C, but it ain't so bad since my old laptop CPU (Celeron 500) was running so hot if you put the comp in your lap it would burn your skin...

And remember, if it gets too hot, the best way to cool it down is to thrown some water on the motherboard. :cheeky:

CPUS can stay alive at temps up to 185 F or so, but the hotter they are the shorter their life is, esp if you turn your computer on and off alot. That's why u gotta use good cooling!

I think the variation of CPU temp from one person's system to another is mainly down to how accurate the sensors are onboard the motherboard. I had a PC CHips motherboard a while back and had to RMA it and the temp from one revision to another changed by 15 C with the same exactly CPU HSF (15 C lower). My new Ga-7VRXP Rev 1.1 is showing signs of being faulty and I've heard that the newer revision 2.0 has a different Thermal sensor and people have reported a drop of around 10 C in their CPU temp, whether this is true or not (running the CPU 10 C cooler) I doubt it, but it's probably just giving a more accurate temp reading.
