Building a new PC

Recommended Posts

'lo, I'm going to build a new PC soon, maybe in a month or so, and these are the specs I'm currently aiming at:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Motherboard: MSI KT3 Ultra2

Processor: Athlon XP 2200+ .13 Micron (thouroughbred coroe)

Graphic Card: Leadtek G4 4600 128MB

Sound Card: Creative SB Audigy

HD: Maxtor Diamondmax+ 7200RPM ATA-133 80gb

RAM: Corsair or Mushkins 256mb DDRAM x2

Case: SX840 ATX Case

Cooling: Thermaltake Volcano 9 or Volcano 7+

Thermal: Arctic Silver III

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- I will go with the MSI KT3 Ultra2. I will o/c the mobo most likely.

- Processor will be o/ced.

- Graphic card will be the Leadtek most likely and it will be o/ced.

- Sound card, Soundblaster Audigy. <- Thanks YahoKa.

- I already have a 40gb WD 7200rpm HD, so plus the maxtor one I'll have 120gb, w00t!

- Heard really good things about this case, though it will be hard to place my mobo in it. Lots of space and it comes with 400w PS and 2 fans.

All fixes and updates from you which you may provide will be highly appreciated. All suggstions and feedback are welcome. Thank you. =)

Ok you have to post your strict budget first. Oh yea and if you are going to o/c then get a pentium 4 cus they overclock better.

/edit, here's what i'd edit:

Change the soundcard to a soundblaster audigy.

like I told you earlier, if you'l wait for the gf5, then you should wait for the KT400 mobos

and yes, P4 overclock very well but they are simply too expensif.

OK, stay with the AMD XP, DO NOT GO INTELL!

I would change the HD, somthing bigger than 40 gig if you want, but realy change from ata 100 to ata 133, it is better. For the mother board go with the abit KR7A-133, it is a very good mb.

If you really want to have the best motherboard, get one with the new NForce2 chip. It's a video card and a audio card in one chip intergrated to the mobo. It rocks!!!! Same as the Xbox:P

Nforce2 mobos will be out soon....;)

My budget will be around $1,000. I was hoping to get enough of the money to get these parts in September, but it seems I would need more time. So maybe around October or early November will be the buy time. I decided not to o/c, but I will probably get the Volcano 9 for the cooling system anyway.

-(edit)-

I updated the list in my first post.

well if you've got some left over parts that you can use then that will save money, but I think $1000 is enough, I got the parts for my pc for around $600 so I was happy :)

Integrated video cards are not that great, they are usually slower and they steal main memory resources. But the NForce2 mobos without IGP are okay I think.

Nope. I won't have any left over parts, except of my floppy drive, burner and a cd-rom.

Also I have laid my eyes on the SX840 ATX Case. Is it good?

O well at least u got those, yea the case is good, I got the Antec SX1035 :)

The SX1035 is a "server tower," the SX840 is the normal mid-full tower. I think the SX840 has a 400W PSU vs a 300W too. Oh yea and the SX1035 is more expensive. Go for the SX840 or SX830 for sure ;)

Thanks for the info. :)

edit: After long and thoughtful hours of thinking, I have decided to get the hardware so I could o/c. I understand that ABIT KX7-333R is better for it, but MSI KT3 Ultra2 is promising too. Also I don't know which Volcano to buy, 7+ or 9. Choices, so many..
