DVD-ROM dying?

Recommended Posts

sometimes the left channel of audio will cut out, or sometimes both channels altogether quit working. it happens with speakers and headphones, so that leaves sound card or dvd-rom drive. but then mp3's play fine, so i'm assuming it's the dvd-rom drive.

there's no way sound card could play one thing and not the other, right?

i've tried switching the audio cable on the dvd-rom, and i still have the issue.

the dvd-rom is a toshiba sd-m1212, it's about 3 or so years old. the sound card is an audigy gamer, only about a year old. i do not use digital out on the dvd-rom, it goes through the analoge cable directly to the soundcard.

is there anything else i can check?

i'm planning on reformatting tomorrow (because of other issues) perhaps it's a driver issue and this will help.
