Burpy
I started a new job as a computer tech..and one of my first project is to find a portable air-conditioner.It's a really small server room. What should i be looking for? Does anyone have any experience or can recommend a good cooling (small, thin) solution. I'm mostly in the dark about this and would love for someone to shed some light about my options.Links to websites that have good cooling solution would be great. Thanks in advance,
DrunkenMaster
What a small server room. At work, we have 20+ computers, some routers and other network equipment running 24x7 and other than the air conditioning in the building and the fans in the computers we're added a large floor fan (the big square or circular shaped one) which cost about $100 on the ground to blow on the hotter equipment. You don't need AC IMO unless you're running one of those server farms or you work for a big military agency (wink, wink) and really need to make sure nothing gets losst and expenses don't count. If you need more cooling, buy two or more of those fans. Cheap and it works.
YahoKa
Air filters are good too. You dont want to have to take a server down to vacuum, clean it do you? If dust builds up fans fail, so clean air is very important.
DrunkenMaster
Opps, yeah forgot about that one. The air filters are just as important as the cooling. If too much dust gets in it will kill the circuit boards.
=NickJ=
I'd like to know about portable AC units as well, my room is like a sauna with my PCs on all the time (and having the sunlight directed into my window) and i'd like something to sit in the corner to pump out cold air
