Screw you intel.

Oh and while your needing to leap ahead to win this race - AMD have already won it.

Not to start a flame war, but wait till you grow up and go into the corporate world. Try finding an AMD computer in anyone's office. It's not about how fast their processors are, in the end it's about who gets more money. That will be Intel for a LONG time.

annnnd they're off....

Didn't you know that this topic was gonna become flamebait the moment you posted it? :hmmm:

I currently use both, p4 and amd in seperate machines so i dont get drawn into this horrible fame way. I dont mind the name change because it does NOT affect me whatsoever!

could have made it a bit more colourful I guess - time moves on too...usually a company will change its slogan if they feel in trouble or threatened by another company (i.e AMD in this case). So some bright spark at Intel probably thought "Hey boss, why don't we just change the logo - we'll get the world talking about us again".

We have AMD Computers where i work.

I don't remember the exact % though, Although i think it is more than Intel's.

Advanced Micro Devices, (AMD) Intel's chief rival in PC chips, enjoyed big market share gains last year ? especially among retail PCs. Its shares vaulted 38% in 2005. The Semiconductor Industry Association sees chip sales accelerating the next few years.

After rising an expected 6.8% in 2005 to $227.6 billion, they're expected to grow 7.9% to $245.5 billion in 2006 and 10.5% to $271.3 billion in 2007. Sales will surge 13.9% in 2008, topping the $300 billion mark for the first time, SIA says.

It doesn't look modernised at all; it sort of looks like a much older, late 70's early 80s version of the (now) old Intel logo!

The point was that overall, Intel controls the market. AMD is not at all a threat to them, and they won't be for a long time. Intel doesn't care about beating AMD in the processor market, benchmarks mean very little to them. They just need to get their processors stable and reliable, and you could argue that they have that edge of AMD, whose processors are often stereotyped as unstable or unreliable. It's about controlling the market, and Intel has that control, and will keep it for a long time. So those who are saying AMD has already won need to understand that money is the real goal, and processor speed is something Intel just has to keep up to par with it's competitors.

I was under the impression AMD chips usually have lower speeds and the same performance... Of Course this doesn't mean they're better cause the stereotipe is that AMD chips have for long been unstable and unreliable... I haven't used and AMD chip since the 386/486 days so I wouldn't know but on the dual core battle AMD seems to be winning by an amazing edge (for now) and dual core is actually very interesting for heavy work like modeling, programing, desigining, etc...

Yet it's true that adding the stereotipes and overall brand, Intel has a bigger market share and AMD is of no threat in the mainstream market. Computer geeks on the other hand are turning to AMD but let's face it: Geeks aren't the main share of the market.

PS: Almost forgot I kind of like the retro look of the logo, cleaner than the "Intel Inside" one yet the tagline has got to go!

I like it, but I think the previous logo was better. The new logo looks like something from the 90's in my opinion, which clashes with their slogan "leap ahead".

Out of curiosity, what motivates a company to change their logo? Do they have some sort of data indicating a boost in consumer interest if they change their logo every so often, or do they go to focus groups and ask "what would you think of a new logo?"? I mean, it's possible that changing the logo was a good move for Intel - god knows they wouldn't go to the trouble if they didn't think they'd get some benefit out of it. I just can't see where they'd get that sort of indication.

I voted that the logo is "okay." I liked their old one better, I think, but this one isn't bad - it's just not great either.
