Bill Gates for me. People mentioned that they haven't heard of Gates doing much, which is percisely why he deserves it. The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation has a $29,000,000,000 endowment but no one ever brags about it. When I see Bono, he is over doing the whole caring thing a bit... Not to say he doesn't mean it, but over doing in the "hey look, I've cut off me jewels to show I mean business!" way. He creeps me out a tad.

Gates for SURE. He has done so much for so many people that we don't even know about. I don't see him at photoshoots or hear about heartwarming stories about him on the news everynight. He probably doesn't care if I know, and that's great. He earned his money and he's giving it away.

Bono on the other hand... He is telling my government to give MY money away and getting his picture taken at every turn and he is person of the year for giving OUR money away!? I guess the work he is doing is good but it's nowhere near the Gates' work or even Bill Clinton and George Bush Sr.'s charity work. I read the other day that Bill Clinton has been starting all kinds of groups to help people around the world and constantly traveling and all that. I'm just pointing out that there are people who are doing this work because they WANT to and are doing it with their own money and not trying to get attention.

It really disgusts me that the Gates have to share this honor with bone-o. Compare the Gate's achievements with bono's.

Gates: Billions in their own money and free software licenses.

Bono: Billions of other people's HARD earned tax dollars, plus lots of photoshoots and hanging out with policitians, heads of state and royalty.

Edit: I read on Yahoo news the other day that bono said in an interview that U2 almost kicked him out for doing so much charity work....

While I am aware of bono?s activities I know that he is considered becaise Live8 while the concert itself accomplished nothing at all.

I realize that Bono has done lots but it seems like everywhere I looked this year he was there and after a while I started thinking "Not this dude again.......there he goes being the bigger man and doing the right thing again. Yay! (sarcastically)." After a few months of this I was just sick of him.

Seems like those that are less in the eye of the public and have the resources to help are the ones that truely make a difference. Maybe the media is directly responsible for my decision on this one but I put my vote for the Gates' strictly because of the fact that they contributed to many organizations and did their part nice and subtle with no glitz or glamour attached to it.

The penguin......well, unfortunately he did not do as much as the above folks. Seemed to me he was too busy fighting off the cold and trying to fill his belly that he forgot that millions of people around the world are doing just the same. I'm sure our aquatic avian friend will someday change his ways and do as much as he can for his fellow penguins in hope of a better future.

Bill Gates has done a lot of good charity work, but to get the fortune in the first place he (as a businessman) and his company have screwed a lot of other companies over (ie: IBM).

Bono... I don't even know who he is.

I voted for a Penguin.
