I chose "An artistic medium which I dedicate much time into studying and understanding" which is why most pop music sickens me. Music, to me, should be real expression much like the poets of the past. I even hate Shakespeare because he wrote for money and not the love of the art.

I view music as a drug. Different variants of music are depressants and antidepressants. There's no harm in abusing the substance though

Any person here who has argued for the abuse of drugs is just trying to justify it to themselves, including the original poster.

Hypocritical much? ;)

Hypocritical much? ;)

Proving my point much? ;)

I can't believe you're going to that much effort with such a feeble angle to stand up for drugs. :hmmm: I hope you don't expect me to seriously debate with you about this... You quoted a thread that was posted days ago about real drugs, where I came down on real drug users, and compare it to my comment about music being a harmless drug metaphorically? Please dude -- Your comment, in essense, means you either wish to argue that music is harmful or drugs are not harmful. Either of which would be equally absurd

Well, I would my stance....but that was prettymuch just a joke. I just found it funny how contradictive your statements were, I could care less about trying to convince you I'm right. I'd rather go play gameboy. :-D

Either way I do feel music can be psychologically beneficial or harmful. Might make for an interesting thread right there too. Oh well, another thread, another time.

On the subject of Ayreon, listened to some of Electric Castle and Human Equation after eating at Cici's. I forgot how good Opeth's singer sounded on the latter....did an excellent job on that record.

Found a copy of Isis' Panopticon, one of my favorite albums ever. It was 18$ though....****ing mall stores. Meh.

I've only got the human equation. Tell you what, you treat yourself to: Porcupine Tree - Voyage 34: The Complete Trip, and I'll go buy another Ayreon album, or maybe if I can find a cheap record shop in this expensive city of mine - some random artists.

But seriously, voyage 34 is an absolutely brilliant album.

you should've had a both option.

I listen to music that falls under both options.

I take music seriously, and consider it a valid medium for expression; but I also listen to trance and DnB, and other party music, which is just for fun.

Music is something I spend a lot of time with but I wouldn't say I studied it intensely like the poll suggests.

Making it:

Since as long as I can remember, I have had a good sense of rhythm which has always been with me. Consequently, I went on to learn to play drums and then at 14, I switched to the guitar (my drum teacher was a good drummer, but a difficult teacher). Now at 31, I still play guitar now and then and since we got a PS2 for Xmas with SingStar 80's, I have become a SingStar fiend entertaining friends and family alike with my rendition of Material Girl (8000pts thank you very much).

Listening to it:

Trying to pin my musical tastes is like naioling jelly to a tree. I have no set style which I prefer. I have rediscovered some 80's classics (thanks SingStar) but at the moment, I am listening to some hard metal courtesy of Reveille.

I think if I were to pin a common thread amongst all my musical tastes, is that it has to have a good rhythm or groove - be it a Sugbabes 90bpm pop song or the chunk-chunk-chunk guitars of Rammstein.
