i could swear it came with RC1, because of the build number change, but it is still oppening the old msn 4.7.039

You would have thought that microsoft would have megred them instead of having too? :ponder:

There is no way messenger 5 comes with SP1 RC1. Messenger 5 as far as I know will come bundled with MSN Explorer 8.0. Thats the only way to get it thus far. Believe it or not, MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger seem to be two seperate or different programs. Windows messenger is strictly for Windows XP while MSN messenger is to be used for the rest of the OS's. One would think MS will end up merging the two together to create Windows Messenger 5. But if it comes with MSN8 only, you may just end up with both messengers on your system......as stupid as that would be.

Anyways, as far as I know XPSP1 will only update Windows Messenger to Version 4.7. You folks are getting it mixed up cuz you got both installed on your system. thats the only thing I can think of.

I decided to not mess with Windows Media 9 Series til its PUBLIC beta on September 4th. Than I'll see how its changed, and perhaps install it. I hadda reinstall XP just to get back to WMP8. I'm not even going to mess with SP1 betas like I did the original XP beta's. Final will be out in afew short weeks, I can wait. As far as MSN8&Messenger5 go......i'm waitin til it goes final to see what I can do with it....and furthermore..gimmie one good reason I should use a product I have to suscribe&pay for when I have broadband internet already and thats good enough.

I vote fake. I've checked all of the leading XP reporting sites, and they are still tauting 1086 as the latest leak.

I'm sure this will be exposed one way or another in the coming days.
