Mozilla is superior to Internet Explorer 6.0!

Question

Let me start by saying I have tried many builds of Mozilla, Netscape and Opera over the years and have always preffered IE until now. As of Mozilla 1.0 (now 1.1b) I believe that Mozilla is far surperior to IE.

1.) Tabbed browsing is more efficient than opening multiple explorer windows. Having 4 or 5 websites fully loaded under tabs a few inches away from your main browser window is so much easier than stacking multinple browsers, having to go to the taskbar, or even using a windowshade app to roll up the windows.

2.) Mozilla is stable. This afternoon, just for fun, I loaded 160 sites into a single browser, tabbed. Mozilla was slow for about 10 minutes (probably more my system limitations than Mozilla), but it accomplished all 160 sites. Without crashing.

3.) Mozilla is easily, fully customizable. It has native skin support. Want to change the splash screen? Drop in your own mozilla.bmp into the main mozilla directory and your finished. Want new browser icons? Install a new set online in 5 seconds. With as many Neowin members into system customization, I'm surprised Mozilla isn't their default browser for this reason alone. Not to mention it works well with Intellimouse drivers, so you can backspace your way through your page history with ease (thanks for the tip BroChaos!)

4.) It supports all commonly used plug-ins. Java, flash, shockwave and more. With the exception of a few MSN Java games I haven't had a single plug in problem. (Mozilla having problems with an MSN site...hmmm. Not to mention the score of open source plug ins like leech get...the best site file leecher I've used.

5.) It's fast. The user decides how much to optimize Mozillas speed and interaction with the OS. Mozilla consistantly loads sites faster the IE6.

6.) It's secure. I've noticed that Mozilla works almost like a firewall in it's ability to screen everything you are looking at (speaking of firewalls, Mozilla works seamlessly with zone alarm now). I have been extremely impressed with how much Mozilla catches when browsing insecure sites.

I have about ten more reasons that I dig Mozilla so much. It's free...go try it out at Mozilla.org. Post what you think of the new build.

I would love to see Neowin artists really get into this browser and start creating skins to match many of the themes we've seen on Neowin!

I agree, and also beleive the development cycles mozilla is going through are much faster then internet explorer's. We will continue to see great enhancements to this excellent browser!

Sure I've heard of plain vanilla.

If I'm naive because I'd rather drive a loaded Mercedes than an Astro mini van then ok, I'm naive. ;)

I was also pondering the MS service packs and critical updates that are such a big ordeal. Not only is IE the swiss cheese of secure browsers, it takes months to get an update and even then, the SP's are buggy.

Mozilla releases a nightly build. That's everyday a new update to the browser. No wonder it's so good.

More.

Mozilla has a built in download manager. Sweet. You can open links as a tabbed window with your middle mouse button. Sweet.

Hein has a new Mozilla icon out today. Sweet!

My custom splash screen:

Moz1.jpg

You can find custom icons at Mozdev.org or Deskmod .

Create a bitmap of any size, shape color whatever you want. Call it mozilla.bmp; copy it into your main mozilla install directory.

Launch mozilla.

The icons I just install straight from the web...

first offf tabbed browsing is better in Opera

Who in god's name would ever open 160 sites. thats insane

customization is not Optimization

all plugins yet do not display properly most of the time

Opera is faster

It will be insecure as soon as 80 percent of the Users start using it. its the rule of law that more bugs and leaks are found

I would like to hear those 10 reasons

Does anybody know if there is a way to use the scroll button by pushing and holding it down, and draging the mouse down at the same time to make the page scroll. Thats the only thing I don't like about it :(

I don't understand why a skinnable browser is appealing to anyone. I'd rather have all my apps using the same style. I'm not knocking Mozilla or your choices in any way, I just don't agree.

As for tabbed browsing, check out http://www.crazybrowser.com . It does tabbed browsing and uses the IE engine.

I've used most of the major browsers and have stuck with crazy browser for quite some time. If you can squeeze another 700kb onto your hard drive you should try it out.

I don't think so. I hate this 'feature' too. This, and the fact that the scrolling in mozilla is very jerky, is the main reason I don't use Mozilla as my main browser. It slow's down my page reading too much.

I mainly use it to test my web pages do some occasional surfing.

Actually I have been using Mozilla for a few months... I absolutely love its tabbed browsing feature, and one thing that is really underrated is that if you disable a few settings voila! No more popup windows :) But (I know you saw it coming) I believe that IE's engine is faster. I think that's highly subjective, but it feels lighter. So I did what every sane person would do.. combine both :) If you go to http://www.netcaptor.com you will find a browser with full tab-browsing support and better yet, it is using the IE engine. So, after that and a short but sweet visit to Astalavista I have the best of both worlds. Try it out! :) And of course there's always CrazyBrowser (http://www.crazybrowser.com) which is completely free! See? The possibilities are endless...

Mozilla may be a tad more stable then IE .. etc.. yet here is something to consider.

When your browsing C: all you have to do is type an address in to the addressbar and bing... Explorer takes you there.

Mozilla is a very nice browser yet I will stick with IE because intergration is actually what I like.. Yet if Mozilla was able to replace IE as the core HTML rendering system of Windows.. I might just switch.

IF only MS would open up the IE specific APIs so other browsers could acutally do so.. (replace the IE rendering system)

About the scroll button, it works in linux, but not windows, I dont know why :(

Why open 160 Websites?

You wouldnt, but it is a good test to see if the program can handle it :)

Open more then 60 windows of IE (hold CRTL+N) and after 63 you cant open anymore :)

Mozilla is 10mb, IE is 63mb :)

I have more reasons but I goto go :)

Here's my reason #7 (of the "10" asked for);

Completely pointless, but you can minimize your Application Menu in Mozilla (File, Edit, View...) This gives it a very nice look.

i just started using mozilla in full time because ie crashed too often. I really like mozilla now, and will never use IE again, except for windows update, and remote desktop over web.
