i wanna buy a digital camera but i just have this question on the differences between these two models. (Canon PowerShot SD550 and Powershot S2 IS) Besides the obvious 5 vs 7 megapixel and size difference, is there any other factors that make one camera more 'professional' than the other? in your opinion, which of these would you rather have?

I would go for the second one with the optical zoom with image stabilizer... very good for outdoor work.

I would rather have the s2 IS because it has much better zoon and image stabalizer. I would guess the s2 would also have better picture quality because it has a larger sensor (im pretty sure it does)

my vote for the S2. worth the money and you can add more stuff to it if you plan to use it in the long run.

5 vs 7MP will not m ake the difference at all unless you do some huge picture

The S2 gets my vote too between the 2 because of the zoom and also the image stabilisator

It depends what you want it for... the SD550 has the resolution and is compact, which is what i like. I have taken photos on this camera and I really liked it. The powershot S2 has 5MP, which is still good and has a very good optical zoom. The camera is quite bulky though...
