jedimasterk
Description of Issue: I have a US Robotics 56K Internal PCI Fax Modem Product # 3CP5699A. I have both my phone line and computer on the same phone line via a union jack. With the computer off I will get a busy signal when I or someone else tries to contact me on the phone line. I can still dial out, but am unable to recieve calls. Unless I disconnect my phone line from the computer this continuously happens. Remove phone line from compter everything works normally. Connect phone line to computer, unable to recieve phone calls, even with all power removed from system. This definately looks like a modem problem. I am also still able to connect and disconnect to the internet. Why is this modem with all power off still preventing me from recieving calls. What do I do?. Tried reseating modem and changing phone lines. No progress.

jedimasterk
I used a dual connector so that you are able to use a single jack. One line to the phone and one to the computer. It has worked like that for years. Now something is not allowing me to recieve incoming calls with the line connected to the computer even when power is off the computer. Disconnect line from modem and everything works fine. Incoming and making calls. Their maybe something shorted in the connector on the board. I did have everything hooked up to a Belkin power suppy/surge protector as well.
vraa
oh that poses a serious problem.. seems like the computer is killing something out.. likeyou said something might be shorted out do you have an extra modem? Might be that and also as username said the continous line is the best way to go. Just my opinion. :p
