1.5gig ram, p3's

Recommended Posts

hey..i just bought 3 sticks of 512pc133 dimm's, and my friend told me that my p3 processor isn't suited to utilize any ram that exceeds 512mb..

any comments on that would be appreciated

and no, i haven't put it in yet, and i'm not going to, just to simply test it. What's the logic and theory behind it?..

thanx in advance

Untrue, its your motherboard and OS that determine how much RAM you can utilize.

What mobo are you running and what OS? (XP can support up to 2Gigs)

RAM is usually controlled by your mobo. I don't see how P3's would not support more than 512, seeing that competitors (read, AMD) support so much more than that. Seeing that you are using SD RAM, there should be no problem. My AMD is currently supporting (and loving) my 1 Gig of SD RAM, so there should not be problems with your P3. Check your mobo manual though, to see what limits they place on your RAM.

i know it's not muh OS - i'm runnin xp . . but how do u determine how much ram mobo's support (i'mm considering to buy a new one newyz)? . . and i have another problem which i THInk is related to my mobo . . but i'm' not sure . .

more frequently now (the problem started mayb a few months ago . . muh mobo iz 2 years old) . . everytime i start a game, or once i'mm 2 or 3 minutes into a game, my system simply resests or like freezes but stutters, if u know wut i mean.

and while i'mm at it :p . . i have an hp scanjet . . hook it up . . and it won't work . . i install all the drivers and stuff . . but still won't work with my system . . i used to use it quite a lot before, even with xp running . . so i dunno wut the problem is anymore . .

thanx again . . in advance . .
