Wmp 9 & W2k

Question

I was wondering if WMP 9 is going to be compatible with earlier versions of Windows, such as W2K? I ask because I've seen what it looks like and the features it has and it is looking impressive. I had XP for a while but I found that it gave me more hassle than 2K so I switched back (around SP 3's release), and now I'm hoping that I and people like me (running 2K) won't be left with just WMP 7.1.:disappoin If anybody can give me an answer about this I'd appreciate it, even though knowing MS they will make it an XP only upgrade.

Yeah, they might actually... because I got a WMP8 setup from a friend... that didn't work, and now i got the new WMP9 Beta, and it works perfectly with Windows 98. So they just might...

i thought the same thing, however the last installer for wmp9 that was leaked did install on my 2000 machine, but the end result is that it left it crippled. i could not uninstall it (it would error), it could not reinstall it (it would error) and i could not play any media with it. i was forced to use an older version of the player (6.x), so i would recommend for now staying away from wmp9. however, there is a "hacked" version of wmp8 installer that will allow you to install wmp8 on a 2000 machine, it works like a charm. the only url i knew was here but it looks like it's down, just search yahoo for "wmp8 for 2000" and i'm sure you'll be good to go.

enjoy,

crane
