rvbfan
Think I'll wait till it all shakes itself out and a winner emerges. There is no way I'm going out and re buying all my movies just to find out I bought the 21st. centuries version of the Betamax.
s0nic69
ok, this is my 2 cents on this whole DVD war. i dont care who wins. one will fall and the other will be around for a few years until something else comes out. My problem is this tho, i had to replace my whole VHS collenction with a DVD ver of them. Now i am going to have to do this with DVDs. I KNOW, I KNOW, NOBODY IS MAKING ME. But cmon, i pretty much have to since DVD players will become as uncommon as VCR players. i know some of u still have them, and im not saying that nobody has them anymore, just that they are not as common as they once where at homes. The new DVDs will have better video but man, there goes a couple 100 DVD movies i have.
eilegz
well here im not into the HD era yet so i dont need both overpriced format, i saw a hdtv and it doesnt look that good so i wait, for now dvd its enough, and price its going down while hd-dvd and blu ray disc are very expensive. I'm with ya infact I bought a tv a year ago that was widescreen and a standard not a HD. HD just doesn't overwhelm me that much, but if they ever drop the prices of these things to something not in the 1k+ range i might consider. Eli
Why can't Sony learn that they can't win with their own formats. Minidisc never really caught on properly either.

John Veteran Posted January 10, 2006 Veteran Share Posted January 10, 2006 Why can't Sony learn that they can't win with their own formats. Minidisc never really caught on properly either. Neither did their Memory Stick. At least not until the PSP (which is WAY overhyped, and overpriced).
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted January 10, 2006 Veteran Share Posted January 10, 2006 Wow, someone should tell sony about the CD since apparently everything they invent is doomed. Better replace my whole collection. Anyways alot of movies aren't going to necessarilly look better on bluray or HD-DVD so I wouldn't fret too much, you know limits of technology and condition of the original source material type stuff, so your old movies are not obsolete. Besides these new formats will read DVD's so you have all the time in the world opposed to VHS were a DVD player wouldn't play them.
