missing icons

Question

I install a version of MP3-Info Extension previous to 3.4. After installing the application I decided that I diddin't like it and I uninstalled it. After uninstalling the application I noticed that the icons for my MP3's were the generic default icon. I attempted to change the default MP3 icon and it did not work. I repaired the icon cache... this did not fix the problem. I tried changing the MP3 icon to any other icon, this did not work!!! I tried downloading new MP3's to see if hte problem was just wity my current MP3's for with the OS. It seems that WinXP will not allow me to change the default icons for these files. I even attempted to change the icons by associating the file type with different application... this was a no go.

Does anyone have any suggesitons? I don't really want to do a system restore.

why don't you want to do a system restore? system restore is there for proplems just like this.

other thing to try is if your using winamp then just load it up and associate mp3 files with it again.

try going to tools>folder options>file types & selecting icons from there for your mp3s.... otherwise reassociating with winamp should work

i got this problem with IE6 .mht files... cant change them back no matter what i do

If you're looking for the default MP3 icon again, merge this as a reg file and reboot:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmp3fileDefaultIcon]

@="C:Program FilesWindows Media Playerwmplayer.exe,-120"

system restore kills many of your settings, like hacked dlls, file associations etc

Alright, the registry changes did nto work, my registtry already is set to make MP3 icons the WMP icon.

I did install Winamp, this did change the icons to a more attractive winamp icon which is more acceptable, but I can't understand why I can't choose any icon that I want.

I am pretty sure that I could do a system restore and I am thinking of a format and re-install because of a number of things that I don't really like, but I would rather fix them all one at a time.

Also, I am not wanting to re-install right now because I may end up having to anyway once WinXP SP1 comes out... time will tell...
