Hell is other people. quoted from somewhere.....dont remember.

Well I'm afraid of dying. Don't feel ready to go under just yet.

But if hell does exist then it would be a cool place, cause all interesting and fun people go there.

The belief of 'going to hell' (and of God, but I won't go there!) is a psychological device used to terrorise children into following their parents religion so in the future they can pass on these memes to their own children.

And the cycle continues...

If you are a good person - religious or not - you will lead a good life.

If you try to be good or believe in God simply because you are afraid of going to hell, then you're wasting your time.

These are the same people who will now touch their knees just because this sentence implies that if they don't they will die tonight in their sleep.

If you have just touched your knees you have my sympathy.

According to my beliefs, "hell" is probably when you lie in your last moments on your death-bed and regret things you did (or didn't do) in your lifetime, and know it's too late to change or apologise for any of it (similarly, 'heaven' is being completely happy with one's life). While I'm not exactly enthusiastic about going through that, this isn't what the poll is asking. And while I don't believe hell is an actual place, I do believe it "exists" insofar as what I said previously is concerned. As such, I was forced to do the ol' votus nullius.

So in other words what you're saying is, hell is a slow death?

Wow I think I just had my greatest fear realized.

I guess you could say that, yes. Not physically slow, but 'psychologically painful' slow (for clarity). I'd love to elaborate, but my thoughts on religion (specifically Christianity, as that is what I am most familiar with) that led me to this 'conclusion' probably don't belong in this particular topic.

(Edit: swapped a word for a more appropriate one)

You're just as bad with what you said. You called his opinion crap. Talk about contradiction.

He disagreed with an opinion. Big deal. I would say the same thing except I'm not the type that likes confrontation much. He didn't call the person stupid for that opinion, he simply stated (in different words, of course) that he does not agree with said opinion. There is nothing wrong with that.

You sure are full of yourself.

Heaven and hell cannot be proved or disproved, so therefore its a waste of time talking about it.

pfftt...every debatable subject is left for personal opinion and therefor the emergence of the 'poll' system. It was mainly made for this purpose. Like elections, there's no better president...its just a normative opinion that could be wrong.

  • 2 weeks later...

I don't know if I'm afraid of going to Hell, but the thought of being sent to Hell can be a tormenting one. Anyone who makes light of something as profound as their eternal soul's eternal destiny...well, they really ought to stop.

There is no such thing as hell. When you die it is exactly the same as before you are born, you don't see or hear or remember anything, you are officially non existant.

There's no problem with my logic... if I own a house on the hill, and I kill the civilians in the village down in the valley, I can be sure that someone will notice someday... and the police will come and take my out of my own house! I have no more rights to live there because I should be punished for the murders I've done.

So, God murdered nearly everyone... he should be punished... taken out of the house. Now what's so complex about that?:

Edit:> In this hypothetical story let's assume I built the house myself... just like Mr. God created Heaven.

You're not following the logic. First, we need to assume that you didn't just build the house. You built the village, the valley it resides in, the planet it exists on, the universe, and every person abd being and every single THING that exists. You created that. Now, assume that you're not randomly killing 'civilians' in the 'village', because God never did that. Assume that you are perfect, with almighty powers, and are just- the whole meaning of being just is you. You're not randomly killing people, but punishing people who have done wrong, whether whilst they live, or when they die. Now, also remember that you have every right to destroy this sin- you've given these people a free will, to let them CHOOSE whether to follow you or not, and if they choose not to, they will be held accountable for this decision.

Okay, following? Good, now in Noah's case, the world was evil- very evil- EVERY person was evil, except for Noah's family (if you've actually STUDIED the book or not, or just read about it, or heard it back when you were a kid in Sunday school one time, and only vaguely remember a flood, and everyone dying except Noah). God told Noah to build the boat because there'd be a massive flood that would destroy everyone and thing on the planet. Now, still keep up... It took Noah many years to build this boat- many, and every day, everyone laughed and scoffed at him, called him all kinds of names. Noah even offered them all a place in his boat, but they just kept laughing. Anyway, the flood came and went, and everyone but Noah and his family, and 2 of every kind of creature were destroyed.

Back to your case, God is perfect and just and almighty. Where do you get off saying that you're better than him because you haven't 'murdered' someone. Neither has He. But He is perfect, and that already gives him a 1-up on you, no? Time to recheck your thoughts! :))

Oh, and this poll is limited. I believe in Heaven and Hell, but Hell holds no fear in my heart, because I believe in Jesus, who died so that I may be set free to spend eternity with Him in Heaven, and hold a personal relationship with Him. Hurrah!

There is no such thing as hell. When you die it is exactly the same as before you are born, you don't see or hear or remember anything, you are officially non existant.

Wow. How is it that you know of something you've never experienced? How can you be so sure that there is no hell, when you haven't died yet and so you don't know? Do tell! Share your secrets with us! How do we cease to exist, too, btw?

when i think of hell i think of hell in south park lol.

but really, i dont believe in heaven or hell because i do not like the thought of someone looking over my shoulder all the time making decisions on where i will go when i die. i kinda believe in reincarnation from human to humam. dont ask why but i just do.

Based upon the type of god fearing folk that are sure they are going to heaven that I have met, I'm not sure the place would be all its cracked up to be.
