Winamp 2.8 or Winamp 3?

Question

Which do you prefer, Winamp 2.8 or Winamp 3?

I personally find Winamp 3 to be slow, and overly complicated for the features it has. The cross-fader in the early Winamp 3 betas was the only feature I genuinely liked, but that feature was added into WinAmp 2, starting at version 2.78.

Don't get me wrong, though, I still think Winamp 3 is a very nice piece of software, it's just inferior to it's predecessor. I'm sure that will change in following builds of the software. If it played Divx files, it would be superior to Windows Media Player in almost every way.

A no no to WA3, wanted to use my normal skin, and it wouldn't work... Staying with WA2.8 for, ummmm, until WA3 improves significantly.

You said 2.x has crossfader, where? How do I use it?

Do you mean the plugin that lets you use the Windows key and another key to play/pause, etc. There's a new component available for Winamp3, RM-X, that lets you do that sort of thing. Also lets me use the Media buttons on my MS Internet KB Pro

I've tried the Winamp 3 betas and just downloaded the final release yesterday. I just went back to Winamp 2.80 a few minutes ago after fightin' with the preferences and the skins and the cpu usage and the memory usage (did I mention I just went back to Winamp 2.80?). Stick with 2.80 until the bugs are worked out in Winamp 3. Of corse, that's just my opinion. :)

Ohhh here go my ramblings ;)

I vote for Winamp 3.

.0 being bold as it is the first of many many many more releases to come. Winamp 3 is definitely designed to look towards the future.

Winamp 2.80 still uses the ancient original Winamp core... Winamp 3.0 is something totally new. Sure there are about to be some bumps in the road but it took 5-6 years for Winamp 2.80 to be where it is today. Winamp rocks and with the new abilities it has in 3.0 and future updates & fixes it will definitely be much better then 2.80. I hope you understand this. Now someone on some other forum hates the fact that Winamp 3 plays videos, I think it is the right step as there are a lot of MP3 players that play videos now.

Give Winamp 3.0 a chance, it doesn't have 5-6 years of constant development behind it.

At the moment comparing the two are like comparing apples and oranges and I hope no one in the right mind is set out to release a "review" or "round up" trying to compare the two.

I think I'll need to stick to Winamp 2.8 after finding some bugs in Winamp 3. They should need some fixes before releasing the final version of Winamp 3. Alright then, that reminds me to uninstall Winamp 3 first...then go back to Winamp 2.8 :D
