BitWise Chat--something different for text chat

Question

AvCtUeRcA had directed me here a couple of weeks ago, and since the old thread got lost (or so it seems) in the conversion, I just wanted to put up a quick note again.

If you're looking for a small (420k), fast, yet still capable chat service, I have developed a new chat service called BitWise with my college roommate. It's a grassroots effort where the users shape the new features, and there's no goofy corporate funny business.

Our web site is http://www.bitwisechat.com, and we did actually have a real review at Van's.

That's all. I've already been accused of spamming and resolved of that accusation, so let's not go through that again on this thread. Just trying to spread the word, so to speak, and the folks here seemed interested with the first post so I wanted to replace it.

Cheers!

That's right, the idea was to get away from those large systems that are overburdened and run by the corporations. Eventually, the BitWise servers will be able to communicate with each other and effectively "join" different domains, but that's something that's still a bit of a ways off.

As we discussed in our "About Project" page--the whole thing started when AOL when on its blocking binge with Trillian--the whole thing just seemed so absurd and so we decided to do our own thing--both for practicality, but also for fun and for the learning experience. My programming skills have been stretched unbelievably, and it's fun to have a real product to show for all your work. And it's neat to have some users that now swear by BW and its efficiency. :)
