Outlook Express to tray

Recommended Posts

Google wielded this:

[start] [Run] [Regedit]

Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences

Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.

Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: MinToTray

Setting for Value Data: [0 = Disabled / 1 = Enabled]

Exit Registry and Reboot

I think this might be for Outlook though, but the article said it was for Outlook Express.

dude do you know the differences between OUTLOOK EXPRESS and MICROSOFT OUTLOOK (that comes with OFFICE) obviously NOT! so think before posting...

Getting a little defensive there aren't we, Sparxxx? I was laughing about duplicate duel avatars, and the "...Bro?" comment.

Is that why you're accusing me of not knowing the difference between OUTLOOK EXPRESS and MICROSOFT OUTLOOK...as you shouted out?

This program is for Outlook Express...which I happen to use, btw.

And the question was...

Is there a way to tweak Outlook Express to minimize to tray instead of taskbar?

Now, go away.

Download a small utility named PowerMenu (Google it), put its shortcut in the Startup folder and you will be able to minimize whichever window you want to the system tray. Not only that you can set transparencies of windows, keep a window permanently on top and set a programs priority.

Once you start using it, you will find it invaluable.

Maybe my computer is unique, but some of the solutions given here seem a little overkill. This works for me:

1. Right click your task bar and make sure the task bar is "unlocked"

2. Drag (right mouse key) the Outlook express item from the menu to the bottom left side of the taskbar and release. Select COPY rather than Create Shortcut. Done.

3. Lock your Taskbar again.

that's not what i mean with minimize to tray :D...

i mean when outlook express is opened when i click the minimze icon it shoul go to system tray (near clock, sound volume etc)

the problem is that it works only with 3rd party apps :(

thanks in advance

I looked for a simple answer also as i did not want a third party prog. I gave up and installed windows live mail. It will minimize to tray and you can import all emails accounts so it will check them all. I believe that this is used by vista also?

Hope this is useful

Right click on the Taskbar, submenu item; Toolbars, Quick Launch puts an Outlook Express icon on the taskbar if the OEM MS mail client is installed, registered, and configured as the default email client on your system. Depending of course on the version and other confounding factors. I think they should publish a joke version of Windows' OS called WindowsTricky or WindowsSticky, or better yet Broken Windows_only a glazier could love. If  God wanted windows He would have someone make them. I don't think He does windows or floors. (No offense intended or implied 8-> )
