rmtshare on server 2003

Recommended Posts

hi, as you may know rmtshare doesnt come with server 2003 so i downloaded the file to the system32 folder. now when i type rmtshare it comes up with the syntax info.

now the problem is when i try to share a folder i always get the error

"the command failed:1783" i looked up the NET HELPMSG and that says

"the stub received bad data"

the syntax i used to share the folder test(already created) was

rmtshare \\%computername%\test$=c:test /grant administrators:f /remove everyone

then i thought what if i remove all the extra bits and just share the basic folder so i typed in

rmtshare \\vaio\test$=c:test

and still i get the same error

can someone help

cheers

Manage File and Printer shares, local or on a remote server.

Although missing from the Windows 2000 Resource kit, the NT version works fine under Windows 2000/2003.

Syntax

Display all shares

RMTSHARE \\server

Display details of a specific share

RMTSHARE \\server\sharename

Share a Folder

RMTSHARE \\server\sharename=drive:path [options]

Share a Printer

RMTSHARE \\server\sharename=printername /PRINTER [options]

Edit an existing SHARE

RMTSHARE \\server\sharename [options]

Delete a SHARE

RMTSHARE \\server\sharename /DELETE

options

/USERS:number

/UNLIMITED

/REMARK:"text"

/GRANT user:perm

/REMOVE user

Notes

Either specify /Users to restrict the number of connections that can be made

OR specify /UNLIMITED

You can include several /GRANTs in a single command line.

Enclose paths that include spaces like this

\\server\"long share name"="c:\long file name"
