Need to block a website in IE and Firefox...

Question

StealthMode    0

My girlfriends mom wants MySpace blocked on her computer because my g/fs younger two sisters spend all day on it and etc. etc. etc.

Anyway, how do I block it from IE and Firefox?

I've edited the Hosts file, and it seems to help in IE, except when you just type in myspace.com, then you can access it. It's only a temporary block, but still. Anyway, any ideas?

Umm if you have a 3rd party firewall I think most of them have some kind of parental control

Wildcards don't work in hosts files. Besides, that would block http://www.myspacesucks.8m.com/ too ;)

Hell that site is funny, well it's ironic I read this as I just edited someones webpage at myspace.com

They used my email address and decided to stick their bird as a picture, well i found their real bird.

ha....

Remember that someone could always use a proxy to get around the block.

The line you added in hosts was something like:

www.myspace.com 127.0.0.1

Just add one more line:

myspace.com 127.0.0.1

There you go. Myspace.com doesn't work anymore either.

Ad Muncher supports a password protected lock feature and has done so for a very long time.

It's on the "Interface" tab.

I think you'd be surprised at what little girls can do. All they need is one of their friends to find out from a brother or something and they could easily go around it. Proxy servers aren't that hard to do once you've done it once. Our CS class tried and tried to get around proxies and the news spread like wildfire once someone found out. The school had to completely update the security/proxy system to prevent students from making anonymous logins to look at whatever sites they wanted to. I thought kids won't be able to figure it out. It really surprised me the attension level kids develop and at how good at something people become when they are deprived from their stupid msn conversations.

Just one thing, can't they just close the program, admuncher? Doesn't seem that hard to do to me. Right click close and it doesn't work anymore. Or have they done something new recently to admuncher?

if you have a router you can do it.

eg on mine:

Log in -> Firewall -> Create New -> web address -> myspaces.com/*/

should block all member pages as their address is like this myspaces.com/members/peacheyhut.

You can also block the site with firewall programs such as Norton Internet Security. Often the blocks in the parental controls options.
