How about a step between very patriotic and it's-just-somewhere-to-live

I like it here...enough that if I have to be drafted, I'm not going to run...but not quite patriotic enough to enlist now.

edit: or is that "I'm not ashamed of it"?

edit2: well..maybe it's just other then.

edit3: nevermind..

US citizen here. There are many ideals our country has that I respect, and there ARE many things our laws have done correctly. However, I feel overall the government is more concerned with themselves and big companies doing lobbying etc than the average joe a lot of the time, which is depressing to think about considering our founding fathers philosophies. Basically I feel like our government has sold out, but hasn't completely changed America for the worse.

There are many good things about living here, but overall I fall into the "It's a place of residence" category. If I were drafted, I would never comply. If there is a war going on that it's that desperate and they need my help and we're fighting for something I believe to be a just cause, I'm likely to join up anyways. Iraq or something where I'm very dubious about my governments intentions and policies, no, I would not sign up for nor let myself be drafted for.

There are many specific things about our country that I think need to stop. The criminalization of drugs, the way software patents are handled, how the term "more money more power" utterly describes everyone in our nations say in government policies etc. But despite all these glaring flaws, it's still a great place with wonderful people in my eyes. I don't think I'm ever going to find a place to live that I feel is 'perfect,' anyways.

There is more than what he has listed, North and South America with mulitple countries in each, hence the reason he as "another american country" listed

Welcome to Junior High world studies.

I think that's over 30 countries just from glancing over that. Seems like a fairly large number to me :D

@JK1105: Well, let's take a look at basic politics. Majority wins, minority does not. What if you come from a minority who is defeated in nearly every voting issue, therefore live in a country with a variety of laws going against your will. Should these people just leave, so all we have left is the majority, running the country down the same track without any opossition? Seems like a rather american sentiment to me....not.

I think the people who think America is a horrible place to be, i.e. Michael Moore/Cindy Sheehan (who claim they are patriots, but everyone with a brain can see through that) should find somewhere else to live.

Wow, am I the first Canadian to post in this topic? If so, VIVE LE CANADA!

...oh wait, that's only going to encourage those who think Canada is a uniquely French-speaking country. Perhaps I should re-word that and say:

CANADA IS THE GREATEST, EH!

I wouldn't say I was very patriotic but I'm reasonably proud of my country, although there are plenty of things about it I don't like.

I'm actually more proud to be a Londoner than anything else and at the risk of offending the rest of the UK, I can imagine living in another country, but I can't imagine ever living within the UK outside London :p .

Canada is my home, but I feel no unneccessary nationalism towards it. I don't feel that Canada is any greater than some other countries, nor is our people superior to others.

I don't know too much about either of them, but I'll go based on my knowledge I do have. Moore seems to be someone protesting many current US policies and attacking our current Presidential regime. I don't see how this equates to hatred of a country, but rather feeling that the current path we're taking is not the one we should be taking as "The Land Of The Free."

I think people like this very much love America, enough to go through with all the hassles of doing such protests. Moore himself probably has people who want him dead for some of the things he's said and / or promoted. I know I wouldn't protest something I didn't care about.

For instance, say my city built a new skatepark in my town. Assume it was terribly designed, because the people who made it knew nothing about skateparks or skateboarding and made no efforts to contact people who did. If the city threatened to shut this park down for X reason, I could care less. However, if we had a nice skatepark built, one that I cared to visit opossed to ones that are further away that offer better variety and ramp quality, then I would probably do something about the threats to shut it down.

That's how I perceive these people at least. If they didn't like what we already had, they'd just leave rather than try to defend their view of what america should be.
