I'm proud of my own accomplishments. It's silly to be proud of a "country" or some other weird "thing" people claim they belong to. The great things that happen in the UK are the result of UK individuals doing great things, not of lots of nameless people/herd-animals who just happen to be citizens of the UK.

Yes I'm very proud to be Portuguese.

Maybe it's because my dad is in the army (and in the army they learn to honor the flag ALOT!!! at least here in Portugal) and he always taught me and my brother that I guess...

If do any noise while the flag is being raised in any army base in Portugal you will get fined for alot of money, so people in the army have alot of respect for their Flag (and country). Maybe that's why I'm so patriotic.

I believe that Amnesty International was formed by two British blokes who witnessed two Portuguese citizens drinking a toast to "Liberty" back in 1975 and who, for this"crime", were promptly arrested and imprisoned by the then-dictatorship.

Maybe it's better to believe in yourself than in a flag or any other sort of fetish object. Or perhaps I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time!). :shifty: ;)

I'm proud of the US, sure, but I'm certainly not proud of all the Presidents we've have.

Country & Presidents/Leader/Whatever Else = Two different things. Shouldn't let that get in the way of if you are proud or not.

I live in the UK and am not proud of it. Whilst many great things have come out of this country, it is degenerating socially - there is growing obesity, growing racial tension, a lack of political awareness, an overly aggressive foreign policy, a bias against renewable fuel sources, high corruption, etc - it's not as bad as what the US has to tolerate but it is still saddening.

I am proud of the honorable, respectable things this country has done.

I am ashamed of the current state of affairs here.

Currently, this is just a place to live to me. I'd love to leave this place for another country, but right now I'm in college and can't afford anything like that, so I'm stuck for some time.

Hopefully everything will turn around soon.

no, im not patriotic at all i dont really get it to be honest.

patriots make my really uncomfortable, i live in the UK and there at least if our a patriot you're much more likely to be a racist and i really dont want to be associated with that kind of thing.

although i think there might be different defintions to what people class as patriotism, in the UK we have crazy patriotism to the levels you see in the USA where people will say that the UK is the best country in the world without any info when in fact the UK is the 15th best.

im sure in other countries patriotism is just saying that you like your country but in the UK its basically racism.

That's rubbish mate, firstly there is not 'fact' about what country in the world is best and this poll is personal opinion so unless you've been to all those 14 other countries and also agree with the order then it's irrellavent.

Secondly, why should someone being patriotic be a racist? Just because someone flys the Union Flag which has been hijacked by minority racist groups should not mean that anyone flying it is a racist. I hate to say it, but it is people like you who actually create the problem by being ashamed to fly the flag. You should see it as your duty to change it's symbolism and take it away from those that do use it as a racist sign and defeat their disgracefull ideals, and that is why I have one on my cieling, why should you just sit there and let ignorant people walk all over it.

I do agree though that many people that are outrageously proud of thier country are often very narrow minded, but not everyone.
