i think they may be refering to as this car is important becuase it a low cost sports car, for the price of around 28k you can get a nice v8 unlike most sports cars (ferrari, lambo's) you have to chunk out your mortgage to afford

lol mustangs have always been over rated. u must not be u true motorphile.the stangs have always had ****y engineering. mopar muscle has a significant place in history about 25 notches above mustang. like evan corvette is more important then mustang.

So by the philosophy woulnt the dodge neon be the most important sports car ever?

The mustang is most clearly not the most important sports car ever, I personaly dont even consider it a sports car, its more of a low cost muscle car.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

All Aston Martin motorcars have been pretty superb! It is my greatest sportscar of all time!

The V8 Vantage is a pure sports car; with a new 4.3-litre V8 engine up front, a gorgeous two-seat only cabin and rear-wheel drive. First driving impressions are that the Vantage is surprisingly firm on the road (though not uncomfortable), and a hoot to drive fast. Though perhaps still not as accomplished an all-rounder as the Porsche 911, the Vantage arguably has the looks and the exhaust note to steal many customers.

In in the American car history, the Mustang was a very important car.

The original pony car, the Ford Mustang that went berserk in sales in 1965 was one heck of an automobile if you ask me that had an immediate impact on other car manufacturers. Many others followed by Dodge and Chevrolet. Then, the many other, more interesting :D modified versions came in such as the Mach1, Boss429 and let's not forget the Shelby's GT350 and 500.

Today I do think mustangs are very overrated as they aren't as great as what they used to be against the competition.

Now, I don't know about you guys but I surely wouldn't mind owning one of these babies, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500E "Eleanor", especially after seeing one in front of me, going rawr :pinch:

Hmm possibly but its too similar to the the new Porsche Carrera 4S for my liking

wheres the damn drool button ?

...

.. :woot: that will have to do...

That was my dream car as a kid. They tested one on Top Gear last week and the guy hated it. He said it ruined his boyhood fantasy of it being the best car ever. :(

Top Gear also tested this and it can't really compete with the rest of the supercars. They mostly picked it for their looks.

Anyway, was the Mustang a monumental and influential car? Yes, it was. It was the start of "pony" cars. Affordable and liveable muscle cars. The "most important" ever? Hardly.

Well it could be the most important sports car for Ford, or America for that matter. But there are far better and more expensive sports cars made in Europe

Well obviously more expensive cars are better. That's not the point of the Mustang at all. It's an affordable high performance car that you can still use as a daily driver.

In April 1964 when the Mustang debuted the big 3 American automakers were taken aback at the public response. 681,000 64/65 models were sold, and over 600k again in 1966.

It wasn't until 1967 that GM woke up and marketed the Camaro. Ironic that they're about to recreate it again after Ford paved the way with the latest retro-version of the Mustang.

It holds the record for the best-selling sports car according to Wikipedia:

(more than 7,800,000 of five generations sold between 1964 and 2004)

It is the most important American sports car.

its not ironic...people have been crying for the Camaro, and all GM has is the GT)...which hasnt doneas well as hoped...so they bring back what people want. Thans tjust goot marketing.

and to who ever said Countach.....drive one...that car BLOWS.

Maybe the old Mustangs did help but the new mustangs seem a bit chick-ish. The mustangs before the new ones out today always looked like it had a a feminine touch also, especially if the car was white or bright red. The old Mustangs look better

well no but i personally love how fast it is for its price and especially like how it looks.

I personally own a ford mustang (94 gt convertible 5.0 v8).

I really hate the way mine runs though. It's always having something wrong with it and i put more money into it then it's worth so i'd have to go with no.

Most people in this thread seem to have no clue about the question or the answer. My answer is it is one of the most important. I'm not sure you can list a car as THE most important. It would definately be in the top 3, maybe along with the Miura (Countach? Yeah right) and a couple of the Ferrari's.
