curme
I just got WOW today. Whenever I play, I see the other players running around in their underwear, and I can't seem to attack anything. Sometimes it says 'Unknown Entity'. I tried to delete the 'WTB' and 'WTF' like WOW tech support says, that fixes the 'Unknown Entity' for a little bit, but I still can't talk or start combat, and people are still running around in their underwear. Sometimes, I can't even see my character, but just a shadow! I heard so much about this game, but right now it's not giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I have an acer laptop, a travelmate 8104wlmi and updated the drivers for my intel wireless adapter. Edited February 17, 2006 by curme

curme
Had a look on http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.as...ow-tech-support mate? Yes, I did. I think the problem my be mt Linksys WTR54GS, but that is a pretty common router! I can't believe that so many people would be affected. I've had WOW for a couple days now, and haven't played it once! I was disappointed with the character creation, there wasn't much chance for customization. If I don't get WOW working soon, I may have to try Guild Wars!
monkeydust
I had that problem until I switched to the other LAN connection on my NForce4 mobo. There's also a LAN setting that can fix it too. (not sure if you have multiple LAN connections on your mobo).

episode
Unknown entity means that the name hasn't loaded for you yet. Whats your ping? (You can check on the bar at the bottom, right next to your bag slots.) What are you trying to attack? The mob has to have orange (neutral) or red (aggressive) text in their name to be able for you to attack them. The underwear thing is just because there are 12 year olds that play and think its funny. As far as the character customization goes, this is an MMO for the masses, not a niche game like the MMOs you might have played before. Too many options is too confusing to a lot of people. Also, the game is so incredibly easy, you can make a new character for however many different customized looks you want.
SadJoker
Call the number in the front of the manual, the tech support and they'll help. Don't bother on the forums. Over 5 million people play WoW and the blues don't have enough time to respond to each and every thread.

You may need to drop it down if you're trying to run it at your native Windows resolution. [H]ard|OCP ran a review on that laptop a while back and although they didn't test it with WoW, they did test it with EQII which is another graphically demanding MMORPG. Take a look here for some ideas on what you might look for as far as settings go. Disabling some features or scaling down the resolution may be what it takes to play WoW on that machine. toadeater
Yes, I did. I think the problem my be mt Linksys WTR54GS, but that is a pretty common router! How is that the problem? I have a WRT54G, I can play any online game and use p2p apps without any naked elves appearing.
REDLENIN
this is a known but not fully understood networking issue see http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/?id=agm01787p eliminate your router from the equation and see if you have any greater success. If the router is the problem then you can experiment with different router settings or a different router. if not you will have to try changing the settings or drivers for your network card. John Veteran Posted January 10, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 10, 2007 http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/?id=agm01787p I recommend you try out that link. This part fixed it for a friend of mine: For network cards that support "Checksum Offloading":Such as; Intel Pro 100 series, Marvell Yukon, Broadcom, 3com CNet, and Nvidia nForce, you may need to disable it to resolve this issue. Goto "Start" > "Control Panel". Double click to open "Network Connections". Right click on your network adapter and go to properties. Click on "Configure" and go to the "Advanced" tab. Select "Checksum Offload" and choose disable in the window to the right. Click on Ok.
