dSLR and video

Why aren't dSLR capable of recording video? And please don't reply "because the lens comes off" because there has to be a more complete/thorough explanation.

its because of the mirror-system, that leads the light through the lense and the body to the viewfinder. when pressing the shutterbutton, you hear that classic "klick", which is the lifting of the mirror which is right in front of the film/sensor, to let the light pass through and "touch" the film/sensor. thats why you dont see anything when looking through the viewfinder while pressing the shutter.

and thats the reason why you cant record videos on dslr, the mirror would have to be "open" all the time, which would prevent the light to get to your viewfinder.

The Olympus E330 would be technically capable of producing video (in live view mode B which uses the main sensor with the mirror locked up) but they decided not to add it.
