_sphinx_
I've been to Canada recently....for the three weeks I've been there, I had a cup of cappucino every single day. And, to my surprise, Tim Hortons beats Starbucks by a long shot! The quality of coffee...Its impossible to belive they fon't put something in that coffee!! I don't get it...why hasn't Tim Hortons spread multi national when IMO, and in my friends' opinions too, its better than Starbucks? I heard they have a store in Ohio, I think, but its not doing so well.
jimbo11883
We have a couple of both around here... I really don't drink much coffee, though, but I perfer Dunkin' Doughnuts coolatas and doughnuts... mmmm.... doughnuts.... :woot:
Jaded
Well Timmy's has a few stored in upper Michigan, Vermont, and one somewhere in Texas (so i've heard). As for why it hasnt spread that far, no idea. Maybe they want to keep it mostly in Canada or there is a lack of potential people who want to run them in other countries. deck
Tim Horton's is just using a very measured and steady expansion. Remember that Tim Horton's is owned by Wendy's, and that Tim Horton's is more profitable than Wendy's. They do want to expand, and they are expanding, but they are doing is slowly and smartly. A massive expansion would be similar to what Krispy Kreme did in Canada a few years ago. Krispy Kreme (as a whole, but in particular in Canada) has not been terribly successful. And Canada eats more doughnuts per capita than anywhere else in the world!
Kreuger
I was told theres a few in Buffalo too. I've only had one drink at Starbucks (can't remember what one) it was good but it wasn't a normal coffee so it doesn't compare because I only drink regular coffees from Timmy's. Anyway I have a friend who moved to Virginia last year and they came back to visit in September and he said the first thing they did was goto Timmys. I love Timmys, as do most Canadians that I'm aware. I wonder if it's biased :p
DreadBoat89
this really depends on what you are talking about... timmys imo has the better doughnuts and regular coffee, but starbucks is great for their specialty drinks (like their frappochino yum)

At least Timmy has raised and cake-style donuts. The muffins aren't much healthier than the donuts, quite probably, but they are pretty good tasting. Plus the coffee, which I don't drink, is about half the price of Starbucks. Same with the hot chocolate.
Lexcyn
We have about 10 Tim Horton's stores in our city alone. Country Style tried to compete but was soon out of business. We have a starbcucks here now, but it's inside Chapters and only the snobby rich people go there (no joke). Otherwise, all of the Tim Horton's shops are always busy. Tim Horton's for the win! lizard.boy
Tim Hortons is about as Canadian as the maple leaf. i remember being in pearson international at 5 am to go on vacation.. we got through the lines for baggage check AND security in less than 10 minutes, but the tim horton's line 50 paces after that was a half an hour wait. Xero
Starbucks is awesome, but its no Timmys. Starbucks charges nearly triple what Tim Hortons charges, and food quality is the same imo, both delcious.. Plus, Tim's has a drive through and roll up the rim, Starbucks is just as is. Not to mention they go by sizes, Tall, Grande, and Venti, like gimme a ****in' large, thats what I'm sayin.

Too bad they keep jacking up the prices on stuff while at the same time making the serving sizes smaller bit by bit. We have about 10 Tim Horton's stores in our city alone. Otherwise, all of the Tim Horton's shops are always busy. Tim Horton's for the win! There's a Country style about 2 minutes walk from my house, closest Tim Hortons is 5+ minutes@ the food-court in the mall, or +/- 10 minutes @ the strip mall just past the mall itself. I think Country Style does decently. Their prices are competitive enough, even if their doughnuts are usually stale enough to be only safe for hand-to-hand combat. (that may just be due to the management at the location near me, though.) I think we should keep Tim Hortons inside our borders. I don't want it's name sullied by people who make bad coffee and (more) terrible doughnuts. As for which I prefer, hrmm.... I will generally go to a Tim's or a Country style if I just want plain ol' coffee, but if I have a hankering for caramel macchiato...to starbucks I must go! Tim horton's is definitely easier on the wallet. spending about $4 on a latte compared to $1.40 for coffee from tim hortons. tim hortons is regular coffee.. any of their cappucinos are pretty bad in my opinion.. just hot water mixed with flavoured powder. starbucks, although expensive, serve different coffees.. they have real latte's and cappucino's. a cappucino being espresso with some milk added (frothed milk or however you spell it), and a latte being mainly warm milk, with shot of espresso added (the word latte literally means milk in italian) i could go either way.. i'd prefer to have a latte or capuccino from starbucks, but not at that price.. maybe once a week.. during the week i'll stop at tim hortons for a regular coffee
Ruciz
Timmys medium coffee, medium hot chocolate, medium smoothie - any medium hot beverage is $1.40. Donuts are around $0.65-75 each or a box of 12 for like $4.50. This is all in Canadian after you factor in the taxes (15%) I prefer timmys over starbucks, krispy kreme, robins, or any other spot due to the variety of flavours, not only in their hot beverages, but donuts and "timbits" (timbits are centers of donuts- I think robins calls them tidbits?) Anyway, usually you can always find at least 10 different kinds from orignal, sugar covered, honey dip, chocolate, apple cinnamon, blueberry filled, strawberry filled, dutchie, sour cream glazed... just to mention a few - now off to tim hortons to get a medium ice cappucino and 20 pack of timbits for $5 - taxes in
Fred Derf Veteran Posted March 16, 2006 Veteran Share Posted March 16, 2006 Within the downtown/midtown core of Toronto, you'll probably find more Coffee Time locations than anything else.
advancedboy
*runs to the Tim Hortons/Wendy's complex just around the corner and hugs it* Oh yeah, perks of being a Canadian. And btw: Tim Hortons is the reason why we eat more doughnuts per capita... their timbits are amazing! And there was a krispy cream near a mall (Hillcrest if any Canadians are reading) near where I lived... and the donuts were garbage... not even close to Timbits! mercuryx013
The Tim Hortons here in Michigan are awful compared to the ones in Ontario. The coffee is typically not fresh unless you get it during the morning rush. Same with the baked goods, and in the summer, the stores are filled with flies. My vote is for Starbucks. majortom1981
I am not that picky when it comes to coffee. I usually drink the stuff at 7-11. I did try the new roast coffee from mcdonalds . They had fre sample at the recent st patricks day parade here on long island. I was very impressed. It was very good considering it came from mcdonalds lol. iconboy
why i think timmy's is better than starbucks... 1) u dont have to mix ur coffee, call me retarded, but i just cant get the levels just right. Timmy's employees are trained in the art of mixing creme and sugar (yes u can call me retarded). 2) Timmy's is cheaper. I dont know about u guys, but i dont drive a BMW but i need my fix every other day and it adds up. 3) Choice is good, but when u have different catagories for different beans and different shots and different toppings and then u also have to deal with 5-6 different sizes, it gets confusing, and then to top it off they use words other than large like grande and u just lost me. Gimme small, medium, large and yes extra large. Timmy's is expanding, very slowly into the US and its not cause their overly cautious -its because thats the only way to do it in a place dominated by starbucks and krispy kreme. krispy kreme by the way didnt storm canada the way someone above made it seem. They opened what like 4 stores in 2 cities? (Toronto and Mississauga)- maybe it was 2 sotres, and guess what? they took off like a rocket. i remember the first few months going there and waiting in the drive thru line for 40 mins! but u know what? it was worth it, because the donuts melt in u rmouth they are sooo good- there is also a reason they melt in ur mouth- LARD. hahahahah krispy kreme is just not good for you period- and after the novelty of KK, people started realizing KK only sells donuts that arent good for you and coffee that isnt good period. they have no other redeeming qualities so people stopped going there. Timmy's sells sanwhiches and soups and bagels, salads and ****, so they easily held out till the craze died down and now they are #1 in canada again, and KKs are shutting down like discos, which started shutting down when people realized that disco like KK has no redeeming qualities! ;)
