AGMW
I was considering downloading and giving WinMX a try. But before I do, does anybody have any major problems or anything good to say about it? Is it stable, allow for fast connections, and have a small footprint? 0 AOXOMOXOA
i used it along time ago. it was very nice, but then they switched to the gnutella network and all went down hill. IMO. now i just use kazza or kazza light.
0 tophat
I use winMX as my primary 'file sharing' program. It's a good alternative to kazaa or gnutella. They just released version 3.3, which makes winMX a little less complicated. It's got a fairly klunky interface, which can be intimidating. But it works, and it works pretty well. ...for me anyhow. I'm on a cable modem, so your mileage may vary. Note, I use WinMX, Kazaa Lite (for fastweb stuff), and Shareaza (for gnutella). I've discovered that for certain things, one network will have more results another, and the 'best' network will change per search... Like, I find more Elvis Costello mp3s on WinMX. But I find more episodes of Futurama with Kazaa Lite. I suggest having all three networks available. (Not running all the time, but get the programs) Then test them out, and use the one that gives you the best results for your searches. Best meaning fast and completed downloads... not just number of downloads. (Gnutella downloads can be slow.) www.winmx.com www.kazaalite.com www.shareaza.com
0 tophat
ignore the comment about it being "switched to gnutella" He's talking about Morpheus, which is now a terrible program (it doesn't work well, and it has spyware too). WinMX is still its own network. (Though it also supports the OpenNap protocol... not that I've bothered to figure out how to use that yet)
0 Jerichohol
agreed winmx is a great program and if you share you can trade with a lot of people. i also use kazza lite and edonkey for different needs.
0 kryptonik
I use WinMX, i hated for awhile beacause no search results would come up, but i gave it a shot and it's GREAT!:p . I recommend you d/l it.

0 xpablo
Win MX is ok. I like Kazaalite . But I also use Blubster but you can only d/l .mp3 and it doesnt give you a preference for whom to d/l from like cable/dsl or above users only and also no bitrate option either. But I find it faster for downloads compared to Kazaa. http://www.blubster.net

0 whatchadoin
i think it's great, the only downfall is that when they come out with a new version you can't download anything till you upgrade. i think that's horribly annoying. it's great for porn, hehehehe
0 shockz
I switched over from Kazaa to WinMX about 2 months ago. I really like it.
0 ibetheone
Yea I think Winmx is great(they need more working opennap servers, either that or I just need to find them) but I still believe irc is the best source to get stuff. I recently tried filetopia, kinda like direct connect and soul seek if you ask me.
0 AGMW
Thanks for the help, fellas, but another question is, why do searches take so long and is there a way to speed them up?
0 OldMansHands
Switched from kazaa (lite) to WinMX when Kazaa mysteriously stopped working. Definitely won't be going back, much better interface and more files more easily available. And it actually let you know what it's doing, and lets you control it all. Which Is a definite winner, all those settings for me to play with!

0 Klassik
WinMX is the best, easy to use and like was said above you control everything. IRC is also a nice way to share files :devious:
