Viewing contents of directory if index.html exists

Just checking - is it safe to assume that other people can't see the contents of a directory as long as I have an index.html file in that directory?

Yep. Unless, of course, you defined the directory index file to be something other than index.htm or .html or .shtml or .php or etc...
