CrazyDelta
I like OpenOffice as well. Nice PDF convert option and all. And, I am assuming that with Office 2007 they will have that too as well as Open Document Format. However, that is not the point and I don't think OpenOffice is out there to compete head to head with Microsoft's product. It's just a great free software with enough capabilities and functions to do basic documentation in Word and Excel. Doing such basic stuff should be free in the first place considering how much Windows XP OS costs anyways. Instead we are stuck with WordPad, and Notepad. OpenOffice is truly a remarkable software for the average joe who doesn't want to shell out couple of hundred $$$ to make his grocery list, do his accounts, do his essay assignment or write a letter to his mom. Malisk
Not sure I can vote on this one... :) OpenOffice is clearly enough for me at home, so that's where I use that one. At work we use Office XP+2003, and that's probably better for these environments. I'd never go out and buy Office 2003 for home use.

ozgeek
OpenOffice here and probably always will until it becomes like StarOffice. MS Office is too expensive and bloaty for me. Stopped using MS Office XP. OpenOffice has done everything for me so it's an excellent office suite for me. :) What? MS Office = $1000? or OpenOffice = FREE? Doli
Both are good, but all i need to do is type reports so i dont need all the extras in Office. Shoot some of the things I type can be done in WordPad, heck maybe Open office may be too much then :p (Unless i use spreadsheets)
Toology
Office 2003 since it has does essentially everything I need it to. I've grown up with Office since Office '97 and am highly familiarized with it.

dyn
OpenOffice is quite limited on features and file sharing. File sharing...hmmz, fileservers are for filesharing :p I use OpenOffice.org because I have to share the documents with someone else, so the reason why I'm using it is the same reason why you aren't using it :p I used OpenOffice.org occasionally but one year ago I sort of had to use it. We were working with 8 people on a project at school and some of them used Linux and even Solaris. Microsoft Office doesn't run on those operating systems natively. That's why we used OpenOffice.org/StarOffice (which comes free with Solaris). THe PDF export (as said many times before) is superb. The document we had to deliver were exported to PDF so everyone could read it. Right now I'm using it once more in a project. I'm working together with someone else and he's on Solaris 10. We're using OpenOffice.org 2.0 (me) and StarOffice 7 (Solaris guy; because it came free with Solaris 10). Due to StarOffice 7 we have to use the old OOo 1.0 file format instead of the new OpenDocument (which is an ISO standard right now). Once again we export every document to PDF so everyone can read it. The versioning system in MSO and OOo is very very limited in what it can do. That's why we're using subversion (svn). THe big advantage: 1 versioning system for all sort of filetypes (documents (OOo1.0, PDF), pictures, etc.). The main reason why I am using it is because of the style system it uses (and it uses it throughout every part of OOo) I find it very easy to create a document with it. I tried to do it with Microsoft Office but it takes way too many steps to do the exact same styling thing. Microsoft Office also tends to go bananas when it comes down to styles. One minute they are there, the next they are either gone or replaced by some <random> style. I also find out that working together with other people that use a different version and/or language of MSO also adds up to the style madness. I've seen documents go FUBAR. OOo makes creating advanced documents a lot easier to me then Microsoft Office does. The price tag also helps a bit, though StarOffice is also free for students.
