Shelley Bettis say she's now forced to answer questions she was not ready to answer because her children saw things they were too young to see. She bought a DVD player, but also got pornography. Bettis and her three children just wanted to watch Bambi II Tuesday afternoon, but before Shelley could load the DVD in the new Apex player she had just bought, something else popped up on the screen, and it was a far cry from Bambi. "I don't even want to tell you what I saw," said Bettis. Already inside the player, Shelly says, was a DVD. The label was so graphic that we can't even show it to you. The material on it is pornography. "I was floored," she said. "I felt my heart hit the ground that my children had to see that. I was disgusted." All three of her children, the youngest just eight years old, saw the first few seconds of the DVD before Shelley lunged for the player to turn it off. Thirteen-year-old Taylor watched sex acts she didn't even know about. "It's very gross," said Taylor. "I saw body parts I've never seen before." Shelley bought the $34 player at a Cleveland Wal-Mart and says the box it came in had not been tampered with. In a statement, Wal-Mart apologizes and says, "We are thoroughly investigating the matter at this time." No one at Apex, the manufacturer, returned our calls. In a home where the focus is on faith and morals, the wrong purchase, Bettis says, stole her children's innocence. "For them to see what they seen, it's not right," she said. Wal-Mart encourages Shelley to return the DVD player to the store for a full refund. NWS* Legal options? Maybe it was a return? Is she gonna sue Wal-Mart? Its not their fault if somebody watches porn on a DVD player they buy and return. They can't check everything. And if its from the manufacturer, then maybe it was used for Quality Control tests, in which case, sue the tester, not the company. Its not their problem what every single employee watches. What kind of household is that? :rofl: 2) If there is anything the kids will be traumatized from, its probably the crappy music -I hear that- porn movies have. ;) 3) Went to my local Wal-Mart, and all the copies of Bambi have sold out. Since I'm posting on the 5th or 6th page, someone else here must have gotten a 'bright' idea. :p On a more serious note, the best way to approach this is to tell the 13 year old not to react too much to what was seen so that the younger kids who don't understand try not to over-process the information on the screen. They only react to these kinds of things when the parents react. It called mirroring the parents. That's why when kids say they want to be "....." its usually the same thing their parents do .... etc etc. I have to wonder though, what she expects to get as a result of this experience. I'd ask for a gift certificate or what not. She's probably going to try and sue. One more reason not to shop at Wal-Mart. I think it pretty clear the discs are reject ones (as people have been getting bad game CD and such from them). I wonder where the Wal-Mart DVDs/CDs are packaged? Kids have to learn about sex sometime can't leave it to the schools. you're right, even porn DVD's start out with a disclaimer like all movies, and at most it would have just gone to the menu... i think i'm going to put any dvd in my player, unplug it, and then plug it back in... i bet it takes at least 10 seconds to get through the crap to even get to the menu... this lady is full of crap and looking to sue everyone she can... i mean, the porn dvd might have been in there, but she's lieing about seeing anything... DVD player notices disc inside, starts to load it 3. Meanwhile she's fiddling around with the remote wondering why it won't show up on the screen 4. Porn got past all the legal crap and started up playing the porno. 5. She's still fiddling around with the remote, oh yeah her stupid ass finally realizes it needs to be on A/V Input or whatever her tv calls it. 6. Image comes up on TV screen of playing DVD 7. TT Boy is sampling the taco. She could have been pressing God only knows what on the dvd remote too, which would skip chapters or whatever.
