Mother upset over porn in brand new DVD player

Recommended Posts

what i find so interesting in reading all your posts is how you all have talked more abour YOU liking porn or seeing porn or saying what a lame mom ths lady is. and how a 13YO shoudl know all this stuff.

i guess you really are only 12 year old perverts with nothing else to do.

except bash all moms, all soccer playing kids, all 13YO girls who may get knocked up(prolly by pervs like YOU) and christians and homeschoolers.

where is it that you HAVE to know all about sex at age 13. you all need to get a grip on reality and that living in a world where free porn is not the be all end all.

i can see how obvious it is, you all HAVE NO KIDS!!!!!!!!

a lot of people on here do have kids i bet, but this has nothing to do with that, except for some of the comments from people screwing around...

this lady is obviously scripting her kids on what to say so she can sue... plain and simple...

I would say that the mother got the children to seem all innocent to get more attention and stuff.

I doubt the children would have said that. A 13 year old being offended by porn? Unlikely.

"Bambi II" ? - hah. yeah right. Little innocent children.

"Bettis is now exploring her legal options" - well what else would she be doing...

Ah thats golden.. lol

But really, if they were sitting down to watch Bambi II then I do think porn would offend them. Just becaue some people  here are used to it doesnt mean a 13 yr. old is ;)

...... (save space) ......

I can appreciate what you've said. I made the jokes because I had to. Seriously, its a bizarre incident (true or not). I sympathise for the woman and the kids, but I really have to wonder if she isn't going to try and take advantage of it.

If the older child * and * the mom would have controlled their emotions in front of the younger children, then there wouldn't be a problem with the younger kids having 'seen' the porn. I'm not suggesting she plays porn for her kids and not react to it. But when she freaked out, the kids *have* to find out what the problem is and then the mom has to explain it. Pretty simple. The kids really aren't old enough to realize what they see is bad unless the parent filters it for them.

I seem to recall a woman called the cops because someone was watching porn in a van next to them at a stop light (really not cool, in a van or in traffic). I think the story made the rounds on Neowin. Similar thing. Woman freaks out then calls the cops to press charges because the kids are traumatized. They are because the mom is.

The article implies that this is a christian family.

Then Wal-Mart should be forgiven, not exactly what she's planning now:

In the meantime, Bettis is now exploring her legal options

HMPF....

Being a Morman and raising my family with religious values, I still know there is a real world out there and hopefully teach my kids the same. My two boys 14 and 16 know about sex and have had sex-ed classes in school long after we gave them the "TALK" at age 10. Friends of ours with teenage daughters same stuff. If the parent takes an interest in the family and talks about what needs to be talked when needed then there should be nothing wrong.

The mother should have shut the DVD off and say something like OOPS looks like we got to watch someone elses entertainment for the evening, then ask if the kids had any questions about what they saw. That it....end of dramatic series.

We have created such a litigious(SP) society in the US it is ridiculous. It is always someone elses fault, why can we not take some responsibility for ourselves?

Couldn't be too Christian if the first thing she thinks about is sueing someone.

On the Bambi II thing. When it came out I bought the DVD and was going to watch it. My 16 year old son came home with a friend and they both decided to watch it with my wife and I. They were probably just waiting to get to the XBOX 360, but I say they were just enjoying a movie with the family and drinking COCA COLA (gasp again).

uhhhh thats really offensive, thanks.

being a mormon would not make you any more or less strict on porn than being a jew or a catholic would make you, now please shut up.

sounds like she's preparing for a huge lawsuit. so stupid. I mean, yes it was wrong for her kids to see it but it's not the end of the world. How should the child react to this when she's told she needs counseling after seeing others have sex? How will this change her view on sex in the future? There is more to this than money but the mother probably doesn't see it.

Its probably easy to see it that way. It does sound like a money grab even though she won't admit it.

But suppose she doesn't have a lot of money and education. Or maybe she's well educated but doesn't have much money. Wal-Mart is a nice big company to target for a lawsuit. Maybe she has $25,000 debt or more (or none at all). If suing Wal-Mart, given the opportunity, gives her a huge payday so she doesn't have to worry about money anymore, I'm not sure that others wouldn't think about the opportunity.

But, I don't shop at Wal-Mart. So its easy to pass judgement. **

Game Theory, its pretty powerful stuff.

"I don't even want to tell you what I saw," said Bettis.

"I was floored," she said. "I felt my heart hit the ground that my children had to see that. I was disgusted."

"It's very gross," said Taylor. "I saw body parts I've never seen before."

Anyone with a brain can clearly tell a responsible and "moral" person wouldn't make such OVEREXAGGERATED comments like that. If that mom really was practising strong moral and religious principles she would've said stuff like "I'm disgusted the store (Wal-Mart) could be so irresponsible in making sure the wrong stuff doesn't end up in the wrong place," and at least demand the store make a formal apology and compensate them properly with another DVD player, but not whine and bitch about "I am now mortally paralyzed for the rest of my life..." and this:

In the meantime, Bettis is now exploring her legal options

... yeah, suing people the nasty American way is really practising 'morality.' Just go and build a big ass mountain out of a molehill just to prove your case.

Eh, sucks for the kids though. They probably won't get too much fresh air with some nut as their mom.

For some reason, I'm seeing "finger in my Wendy's chili" all over again...... :uberhump:

I am not a parent but I live alone and am 24. I understand why the wowan is upset. Have any of you any idea why the laws was in place which restrict children from accessing 18+ only content or enterainment? Huh? Same reason as locking children out of volience. If children was exposed to porngraphy, they might become rapists, prosisutes, or do heavy sex acitvities which in turn exposes more children. Because the kids are not ready for this sort of thing. They should be tought basic sex education, not real-action porngraphy which is too much for kids.

My parents did not teach me and I did not understand myself until Year 9 in which I was tought in two different classes to the intent of how our reproductive system works and they work together to produce a new person. And I understand about it perfectly without the help of my parents. If there were any more information I needed I just google it over the internet.
