Mother upset over porn in brand new DVD player

Recommended Posts

Kids will have to learn sooner or water. The mature thing would be to explain what the kids saw. There's no point in trying to hide the facts once they've seen it. Kids are very curious.

OH MY GOD my kid saw a weiner!!! They need therapy now!! OH it's a sin!!! SIIIIIINNNNN!!

If she didn't make such a big f'ing deal out of it, the kids wouldn't really care. Oh NOES the kids asked questions!!!1!!1! Ahhhhh!!!!!

What I find really disturbing is that the 13 year old knows nothing about sex or human anatomy. What bloody planet is she from?

I remember finding a porn mag when I was 6.

You may be surprised, a lot of people don't really give a rats tushy if they see porn.

A normal person who doesn't care for porn would take the DVD out, throw it in the trash and forget about it but in the hickieland they make it into a big circus.

No, I am not surprised by anything anymore. I could care less, but then again, I'm a little older than a lot of people here. It all boils down to the person. You cannot generalize about things. In your country, sex is probably a lot more liberal than it is here in the southern US. You are telling me that if you purchased something and there was a little something extra in there that offended you personally, you would not gripe? You would just ignore it and forget about it? Maybe you can, I don't know you personally. Bottom line, I will wait to see how the whole things plays out as I still question the legitmacy of some of the article.

As far as "hickieland" goes, yes it is a small town in the south and like most small towns is pretty conservative. It is pretty understandable why they would make this into a "circus" as you put it. Same as the Wendy's Chili finger was a circus or the lady spilling McDonald's coffee was a circus. Sensational stories, rather true or not, get people's attention, and the media knows it. We've gone four pages on this thread alone.

I love it how people here are so quick to judge. Everyone here is quick to judge this lady, you are quick to judge me. and why? I'm stating my beliefs on this subject.

Do you know who Ted Bundy is? Have you ever read his life story? Well it started out for him by catching a "little" glimpse of porn at an early age. He goes on to say that from that little glimpse it planted a seed that ruined his life and many other innocent people. What most people dont understand is that porn even just a small glimpse can begin to distort your thoughts on men and women and what true sexual intemacy really should be. Is it so bad that some people want to preserve the normal and true nature of sexaul relations with man and woman?

Have you read Ted Bundy's story? His life story is in no way similar to most people lives. He was lied to a very early age about who his mother was. Also all his victims were similar in looks to a girl who turned him down. I also wouldn't put too much stock in what Bundy said about porn. For all we know Bundy could have gave the interviewer what he wanted to hear.

If our Lord and savior, Tom Brady can handle porn, I think that anyone can. Seriously, what the kids saw is akin to walking in on their parents having sex.

Right, but how does that justify this crazy mother's decision to seek legal action and send them to a counselor?

The counselor I can probably understand, though I wonder if that'll do anything to eliminate the urge of looking at porn again in those children. But the (upcoming) lawsuit -

Shelley bought the $34 player at a Cleveland Wal-Mart and says the box it came in had not been tampered with.

I have seen countless electronic items bought and returned to Wal-Mart. They get taped back up, and put back on the shelves as new.

Mainly on smaller high-value goods, where people buy something and don't know what to do with it/can't get it to work/needed it just for one time.

You often find things like DVD burners, Network Routers, etc that have been obviously used and returned because of things like fingerprints, dust and hair on the installation cd's, Tape that has been put back over the plastic bag that literature comes in that has obviously been removed at one time.

I bet this is what happenned in this DVD Player "scandal". The player was returned "I never used it" taped up and sold as new. Only someone left their DVD in there.

uhhhh thats really offensive, thanks.

being a mormon would not make you any more or less strict on porn than being a jew or a catholic would make you, now please shut up.

Actually my friend was nearly kicked out of his church for watching it and he is Mormon..... never heard that in a Jewish or Catholic church. They are also the people that won't allow homosexuals in Boy Scotts, one of the strictest religions.

Its one thing if her child saw this video for an extensive amount of time, but for a few seconds? Lets face it, the kid is not psychologically distraught like the mother makes it seem for watching porn for a few seconds.

All three of her children, the youngest just eight years old, saw the first few seconds of the DVD before Shelley lunged for the player to turn it off.

Is it me or doesn't the person have to press play to watch a DVD almost all the time in order for it to play? Last time I checked, if the person didn't press play it would stay in the title menu.

Thirteen-year-old Taylor watched sex acts she didn't even know about.

So apparently she knows of many sex acts, but not what he saw for two seconds? Sounds to me like she knows more than she needs to know, contradicting what her mom said.

In a home where the focus is on faith and morals, the wrong purchase, Bettis says, stole her children's innocence.

Considering her 13-year old apparently knows of a few sex acts besides the one seen on the video, I don't see how the innocence was taken away.

My view on this is that this mother is taking it way too far than she has to. I have a strong feeling that nothing was shown from the DVD but when she opened the player to put in a DVD, she saw the disc inside and decided to make some fuss about it.

"It's very gross," said Taylor. "I saw body parts I've never seen before."

Taylor was 13 and has never saw body parts like boobs or cocks. Jeez I think it's best shes sent to sex-ed rather than counsoling. The mom should just stop being so stupid and explain about the birds and bees. I already knew that since like 5. 13 years old is perfect for explaining sex because thats about the puberty age.

wtf, i don't get it.. you would see FBI warnings before any sex dvd... i've seen some dvds at friends house and i've seen tons of warnings 18 older warnings before i even saw the menu...

friend's house, eh? :shifty: ;)

I can understand the mother being upset, myself. But legal action? Who's she gonna sue? It would be ridiculous to sue either Wal-Mart or Apex.

maybe she'll sue the porno company :D

i think the funniest part is that parts is plural.. what other body parts could this 13 year old girl have seen that she hasn't before besides a guys wang? shes a girl.. which (hopefully) means she has those girly parts.. andddd i don't know what else is on a porno like that but she might have seen one body part that she hasn't before, but certainly not more than that..

what the heck, shes going to be knocked up in 3 years anyways.. might as well let her see what she'll be getting into.

I totally agree...she's 13...maybe she's deformed and has none of those parts

If she wanted to watch Bambi why didnt she open it and put it in? She would of found out then...

because she just wanted to sit down on the couch with her children and watch the DVD loading screen..duuh.. :p

You and the rest of this forum.

Me too

Umm not true, not true, and not true.

"I've heard that all muslims are terrorists trying to destroy the US"

That statements on the same level of maturity.

Anyways, I can understand why the mother might be upset were this story true, but it does seem like the story was stretched a bit, and the kids were scripted. How would sueing Apex or Walmart help her uphold her family's moral values? Sounds like a hypocrit.

Its the mom that needs counseling. What a dumb a$$ b****. A few seconds and she's acting like her family was molested, robbed, also saying her childrens' innocence was taken......WTF!?

I agree. People these days ... family of morals and faith

like everyone i think the mothers reactions are sort of bizarre "never seen those body parts before" etc.

i also don't think the kids necessarily need counseling. i do think things like porn have a negative influence on culture, but i dont like how children are treated like imbeciles that supposedly get traumatized by everything. and what effect on a child comes from belittling them by forcing them to go to a counselor and talking about the body parts they saw? if porn has a negative influence its more because the culture is in some aspect promotive of it, and children are more likely to be affected by their peer groups.

it seems sort of clear that the mother is interested in scripting things for a lawsuit. i dont necessarily think the idea of a lawsuit is wrong or 'unchristian'---this is what people do when they find defective/tampered products, to hold the corporations accountable. though it seems the mother is milking this.

i disagree with people here who say that either children should know everything thats in porn when they're 8 years old and be okay with it. i discovered porn on my own, i found it disgusting then, and i still find it disgusting to this day in my 20s. to sum it up, i find it cheap and tawdry.

btw, someone made the comment that children should understand anatomy and sexuality early on. i don't think most posters on here really UNDERSTAND sexuality. people know what turns them on, but have some vague idea that its because of genetics. the 'healthiest' thing is to understand your desires, fetishes that happen when you don't understand your desires can be problems, and porn just feeds fetishes. children entering puberty should figure this out on their own, society/peers encouraging them to watch porn are as bad as society overbearing on them through repression. unfortunately the role of the parent has to be that of someone watching the child, and its natural to be more strict than lenient (often in response to peer groups).

Most definitely I would forget about it in more or less 2 seconds.

If I had a DVD player that had a pr0n DVD.. I'd prolly give to some needy friend

And even then I might consider 'noting' the business where I bought the said product that "the package contained some extra material that I wasn't so happy to see" perhaps go ask if I could get an apology but who in their right mind would sue over such a minor incident?

And yes, sex/nakedness here is quite liberal - how do you think we can have mixed sex saunas without issues? ;)

dumb biatch that mom....her daughter is gonna get laid sooner or later. :p

And when that happens, that lucky, or rather unlucky fellow, will probably get sued.

There is a difference between paranoia and immaturity. By the way the mormon religion is the number one source of donations to the boy scouts and follow their rules like a momma's boy as bad of an analogy that is it gets the point across. Not immaturity just biased against the religion.

...

I hate to jump into what has become a discussion of the Mormon religion... But not sure where you get your information.

My kids are in scouts. This area is primarily a Baptist area (though I am not a Baptist, either). Scouting is a world-wide thing, including the Muslim world, as well. It is not about any one religion. Religious belief is only a very small part of the content (look through a scout book to see for yourself).

As far as donations go, they are the second to last form of income to scouting. Not the huge influence you have painted. And, given the world-wide nature, I would tend to think that "Mormon" money was just a tiny fraction of that, even.

If you want to hate a particular religion for whatever reason you have, perhaps the forums aren't the best place to air your issues. At least not the BPN area.

Don't think it happened. Sounds like an exuse to sue Wall-Mart. I remember just before christmass some one had got a IPod from Wall-Mart and claimed that instead of an IPod she got a piece of raw fish. The FBI warrning on a XXX video is longer than a few sexonds plus the cheap Apex players take forever to load anyway.
