Yeah, depression from when I was 14/15 to when I was 19. I am nearly 20 now, and I still have a phobic of jobs from when I had depression.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe all this depression ****, if you hate your life, or you are sad all the time, there is a REASON. I don'tbelieve its a mental issue, go make firends, plan a vacation or trip with friends, find a group of people from church, anything to keep you occupied and enjoy life. I am so sick of these zoloft and other anti depression comercials, they make me want to puke.

Everyone will feel a little depression, or sadness sometimes, its called BOREDOM. Its a part of life.

Oh, and a phobia of jobs? Is that like (My lazy butt don't wanna work)?!?!?

Yup, I use to have anxiety attacks (panic attacks) when I was 16, went thru many meds, found the right one and now i'm off them. I'm 22. :) Anxiety is part of depression they say, but I wasn't depressed, I was always happy about everything and full of energy, just that once and a while I started shaking for no reason

For those who suffer from depression or similar, don't worry better days are coming, and I know that sounds so easy to say but its true.

I strongly disagree. First of all, I've been depressed for a couple of years and it wasn't because I didn't have friends or didn't go on vacations/trips with friends... It was because my train of thought was just plain wrong and I imaged things to be different then they where - definitely mental if you ask me. Trying to find stuff to keep you occupied is like running away from your problems, it's just not right. When you're depressed you need to deal with it appropriatly (which is different for everyone IMHO), not run away from it by keeping yourself busy.

Even though I don't approve prozac and other anti-depressive medication, it does work. When you're depressed your brain doesn't make certain hormones/neurotransmitters which would/could cause moments of happiness/joy/anything but depression. Those products force the brain to make 'em, so basically they DO work.

Boredom is also something completely different from being depressed. I suppose you never where really depressed? When I'm bored I sit behind my 'puter doing nothing - staring at the screen. I'm not thinking about things that might go as far as ending my life then :\ I'm trying to think of stuff I can do...

In a way i agree with you, I think if people knew me they'd class me as depressed, but i don't think anyone feels or sees things the way i do, and doubt any pills would help me at all. But i can act well most people would never know, and I have plenty of friends, and holidays, I do nothing all day long. but iam stuck here feeling uneven and out of place.

Yes, depression. It's horrible but I'm alot better now than this time last year.

Sayeth the voice of ignorance.

You clearly know nothing about depression so do some research.

When you are really depressed (not just a little down 'cos mommy wouldn't get you that special new toy) it is impossible to enjoy being with friends or anything you choose to try and occupy yourself with. Motivation disappears and the colour drains from the world.

Severe depression is completely debilitating and destroys lives. I'm talking people who can't get out of bed, they just can't, not too eat or wash or anything.

The fact that medications that alter brain chemistry can work, or at least produce some effects, is enough to call it an illness. It's no different to any other imbalance in the body, such as diabetes where you have issues with insulin levels.

I get anxiety attacks. One thing that comes to mind is i can get them sometimes when i have to phone someone i don't know. Thats just one example anyway. I fine with answering the phone though. Its kinda wierd. :o

Likewise, i go out alot, have quite alot of friends etc. But its just something in your mind which makes you unhappy.

For as long as I've known... I'm just plain crazy. Not like, in a violent way or something. I just do/think about things in the complete opposite way "normal" people do.

Crazy - genius, you decide. :p

Ofcourse, the depression can also hit in from time to time. But I can manage...

Tell that to my wife who had PND after our first child. One day she started hallucinating that people in the street were watching her every move. She tried coping without drugs, but in the end she ended up on Prozac.

The mind is an incredibly complex thing and you can't just write it off by saying that people are lazy or bored. The brain is affected by body chemistry just like every other part of the body and sometimes drusg are the only way to correct the chemical imbalance.

Depression is such a vast area too. So one person's "feeling a bit sad" is another's "feeling suicidal".
