No. There aren't murders because of MySpace. That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. It's just the fact that so many people are using MySpace that the people that do get murdered usually have an account on there. Big deal.

Everybody tries to sensationalize MySpace in such a bad light. It's a good site with good intentions, and nothing bad is happening because of it. Just because some kids are too stupid to realize they're putting too much information on the web (the amount of information you make public is completely optional, I must add) does not make MySpace the culprit. It's just like the stupid kids that give out too much info in their blogs or on IMs.

MySpace isn't a bad site. In fact it's an absolutely amazing site in the fact that it has garnered so much support and created such a widespread userbase that no other site like it has been able to do. That's why it's being targeted by the media and by the government. Anything that gets so big is likely to get both good and bad attention, most of which is usually bad.

yeah, that's true that murders and stuff could just use a different website or on the street but i think this is worse...people are finding other people they are attracted to on myspace and it's making them go crazy, they end up giving out their address and stuff...millions use the website and it happens a lot, it would stop a lot of crap goin on

Myspace doesn't kill people, people kill people.

Also, you are in violation of the Neowin signature guidelines. You need to make that sig smaller

I said yes, not because of the deaths or murders, which I don't give a flying pluck about, but because it's owned by Rupert Murdoch, and it's just a crappy website.

Hahaha, good old Rupert Murdoch. Yeah, I voted 'yes' too. Anything he owns should be shut down.

Now, I don't have a Myspace account and it's not because people are being murdered but if so many people are being killed on it, is it really worth it?

Er... what? Is it just me, or do you contradict yourself over the course of one sentence?

Myspace is just the latest thing people are blaming. First it was "shutdown TV, it's bad for kids", then shutdown IRC and chat rooms, now myspace. People just blame whatever's a hot topic at the time.

I hate MySpace, but I don't believe any site should be shut down because of what a handful of people do.

MySpace should not be shut down because of murderers.

I don't think myspace should be shut down based solely on that.

Anyway, people is generally dumb enough to publish personal information on a website that anybody can view. I personally don't think that's right nor safe.

Here in spain young people use MSN spaces to publish pictures, and they open up their spaces to everybody. People take pictures of their weekend parties or whatever, and I'd really hate finding a pic of myself on a any random msn space.

If people is not conscious enough of what risks they are facing by publishing their pesonal info in myspace or similar, then they shouldn't be given the chance to use it.

i think we should just turn off the entire internet. it would fix all kinds of problems!

Stop human interaction, it will prevent a whole host of crimes

I don't think it should be shut down, because it isn't the problem.

It's all the idiots who take everything way too seriously. And if they want to go killing each other because of a website, then at least the rest of us won't have to listen to their whining anymore.

i dont care why its gets shut down as long as it does. a few of my friends have a myspace account and thier comment area is full of perverts and pedophiles, its a disgusting site.

if people would stop giving thier home address and phone numbers to millions of random people on the internet it'd be fine

i say keep it, it'll help natural selection along quite nicely

Ummm... You know, you actually have to add people to your friends list in order for them to be able to comment. So that's your friends' faults.

My answer: Absolutely not.

MySpace is a hugely popular service, and basically a new "GeoCities".

As with all services, they attract all people of society. The more popular a site becomes, the more weird people it gets, but also more good people, but these aren't very noticeable because these aren't newsworthy or make a big noise. In short, this is the unavoidable effect of the Internet, and I'm sure people have murdered others via contact information first found on Google or other online contact lists. It is a big deal, but it is something I can't see a solution for, and definitely not just shutting down a service. That's burying your head in the sand and hoping nothing more will happen.

It's not a problem with Myspace per se, it's a problem with popular sites in general.

And of course there may be rapists and paedophiles alike on that site too, because they're part of society as well. If they haven't been convicted before though, how on earth are they going to get found out, caught, or blocked in pre-emptive actions by the admins? I mean, come on, I'm sure we have pretty nasty criminals having visited Neowin before. That's Internet for you. But Internet isn't much worse than society in general; it's just a mirror of it.

The only way I can imagine working against these things in the long term is to try using the Internet and MySpace as a way to discover these people before they do something bad. Simply distributing more tax money or reorganizing the economy for the police forces' cybercrime units, if this is currently a problem.

Myspace is a haven for emo kids. In my opinion, the world can do without a few less emo's. My space should stay open.

On a more serious note.... if your stupid enough to post details online that let others track you down you deserve to die.

More people have died due to religion than anything else... so I think religion should be banned...

(and I am just kidding, but my comment makes about as much sense.)

People die everyday... is it sad, sure, but don't blame the medium, blame the f**cker that actually does the murder. Guess what... a person that kills due to myspace is already screwed up.. if it wasn't myspace it would be something that eventually will set them off. The only thing to blame is the person.

It was your friends' decision to add these people to their friends list. A person cannot comment in another person's page unless they are their friend. So, your friends are friends with perverts & pedophiles. It's their fault. lol

I chose my friends and I don't have obscene comments on my page. Although that video I posted on my page has some pretty foul language. LOL!!!!!!!!!!

chalk this up as another stupid poll question.

Of course it shouldn't be shut down...my sister has one and communicates to her school friends and what not. I don't use it because I use the "ol' fashion" email way to talk to friends and family. :)

I say, burn all the pc's in the world and phones, tvs ebox's. Then we can all go out and play lol. Ommm ok no, but then again. we would all be so much healther. Geting to the topic, I dont see how shuting it down would help. All it would do, is the murders would not know, what the persion they just killed is like. I dont like the sites myself. The whole world seems to be selling them selfs online.

Oh soz for the bad spellings.

(Im fat, and I think I should get away from the PC)
