AOL 8.0 Beta 4129.110 Released

Recommended Posts

September 23

The latest release of the AOL 8.0 Beta Software is now available! The new revision, 4129.110, creates a new desktop icon simply label "America Online." You'll want to be sure to update as soon as possible since previous builds will be blocked soon.

KW: Beta on AOL..

Known Issues

- The latest release of the AOL 8.0 beta software (build 4129.110) is launched from the desktop by the AOL icon simply labeled, "America Online."

- When signing on some testers may see an Error Updating AOL message.

- If you select Welcome Screens 2 and 4 on AOL 8.0, you will receive a different Welcome Screen experience on AOL 7.0 (windows and AOL for MAC OS X).

- Making changes at Keyword: MyPlaces will distort the content on the new AOL 8.0 Welcome Screen. This can be corrected currently by relaunching the software.

- On September 18th some portions of the Welcome Screen were temporarily not rendering.

- Some areas in the Radio@AOL form do not scroll properly.

- Setting Themes to None while an IM window is open will freeze the software.

- Uninstalling Viewpoint from the Add/Remove programs control panel will disable the Desktop Themes feature.

- Switching screen names from a Kids Only screen name to a screen name using the Techno Theme (Theme 4) may cause the client to freeze.

- Some tester's computers may reboot when starting AOL. Click here for a work around.

- Installation will require a reboot on Windows 98 or Windows ME.

- During installation some windows will not fully render if your Windows display is set to large fonts. (Windows XP display is set to DPI of 120)

- AOL 8.0 no longer supports Internet Explorer versions prior to IE 5.0

- Email font sizes are currently affected by the font settings in the Internet Preferences.

***** THIS IS NOT AN ANTI-AOL SPAM THREAD ******

Thank You :)

i guess its because it used to say "Double-Click To Start" now its changed to just "America Online" perhaps, they think its an issue because people won't know how to open the software.

Remember it is AOL. "So Easy No Wonder Its #1"

Always remember that, so they thing of every outcome that can cause a user not to know wth they're doing.

um. AOL does the same thing, they give you an Intergrated Instant Messenger that is in the software they make. And since you have to have a subscription to use it... its the same idea MSN has. You get a few extras, like checking AOL Members Profiles, Better Buddy Icons, etc...

right but you dont gotta pay for aol content and then pay extra for the im client. :p

Still you have to pay 24 bux for AOL of all things...I mean I've convinced my dad to switch to MSN....and he wants to....SO come MSN 8 he's switching, and a lot others probably will too, once they find out how stable it is.

how stable it is. its a fricking shell on top of ie. if ie aint stable now how is msn gonna be any better?

besides, like i said before... msn has no good content. you cant listen to record release party's you cant watch a sessions@aol movie, hell you cant even watch a cnn news report on msn without having to pay for it. as much as you all HATE aol you have no choice to admit that it has the richest content and media in the game and it doesnt look like its changing.

sure a few people will jump ship to msn. but not enuff to make it noticable. ms will just spend their money making ads bashing aol and then... they will raise their price. just like they did last time.

i mean... you cant even get a hotmail address now without having to pay 20 dollars for it. its nice that it lets you create the account and all and then when you go to login, you cant, and you see this screen:

hotmail_blows.jpg

Atleast when you signup for AOL you know before hand that you get xxxx free hours and then you will start to get billed. Aol doesnt let you make an account and then blindside you saying that you gotta pay before you even login.

you dont want to get me started on this topic... cuz all you aolhaters are just not accepting that yeah its easy... and newbies like to use it but it is the #1 isp in the world and it isnt a portal built on the www, viewed in ie with a fancy looking shell on top of it.

toxic, i was speaking about 15.00 for AOL...

i asked you guys to not start an anti aol /msn vs whatever thread here....

Finally for the person who said you wanted it...when you go to KW: Beta on aol, you need to register to be in the beta program to access to software, follow the instructions on the screen..

Thank You :)
