Shadrack
Do games only work in 16:9 and be boxed in on my 19" 1280x1024 monitor? Or are their multiple settings available? Also, what games should I get? I'm thinking about getting Dead or Alive 4, because I haven't played a good fighting game in a VERY long time. Not sure about FPS games... i'm use to FPS on the computer. I already have Oblivion for my PC. Are heat issues still there? Thanks! -Shad
icecaveman
There never really were any heat issues... it was just a minor problem hyped up by anti-MS zealots, all consoles got replaced and it had less than the industry number of hardware failures. It depends on the game, some games use pan and scan to fit 4:3 aspect ratio. Not sure about 5:4 though. Dead or Alive 4 is good and so is Fight Night Round 3... You should defenently get Ghost Recon 3...
Shadrack
Well I picked up my xbox 360 and a copy of Dead or Alive 4 this evening. The system runs very smoothly. It is kinda loud, I should probably put it in a cabinet or something. This xbox live thing is pretty cool. The graphics are really amazing, but I feel like so much more can come out of this thing. It will be cool to see how far games get in a year or so. I haven't owned a console since N64, so this is going to be interesting. I'm kinda burnt out on FPS games. I really purchased it with 2-player games in mind. You just don't get that with computer games. I want to find fun games that I can play with my friends. Are there any emulators available for xbox 360? I guess i can do my own searching. -shad
icecaveman
no emulators yet... if you need emulators you should get an original Xbox and a modchip... You are right it can push way better graphics than DOA4... Try the FNR3 demo on marketplace if you aren't fully impressed yet.
+dnast Subscriber² Posted April 15, 2006 Subscriber² Share Posted April 15, 2006 Actually, you can play NES games if you have Windows Media Center. I'm looking for more local multiplayer games, as well. I just gave local multiplayer a try tonight on GRAW and was pleasantly surprised. It's about as fun as playing online with friends. Most of the current 360 games don't allow co-op with local multi, but GRAW did the right thing. I haven't tried it with Burnout either, but if it has local multiplayer games with AI opponents then I'll "Keep It" from GameFly. I'll probably end up getting Fusion Frenzy, too. Honestly, the lack of local multiplayer games is the biggest letdown for me with the 360, but I'll forget about it as soon as they allow streaming movies without Media Center. magik
CoD2 is also fun local multiplayer, but if you want to stay away from FPS, then I'd highly recommend Top Spin 2 for some excellent local multiplayer action. Other sports games can also be great local multiplayer action (namely, Tiger Woods, NBA Live, etc). You may also find PGR3 or another racing game fun for local-multiplay. Shadrack
Dead or Alive 4 efficiently uses my 5:4 display, no problems. I've downloaded some demos off of xbox live and they are all widescreen with black bars. What gives? Is that just how demos are, or are most retail games going to be this way? Hupp
games seem to very on whether or not they are widescreened with the black bars or full screen. MLB 2k6 and gwar are the only 2 i own so far that are widescreen w/ bars. the rest i own are oblivion, madden, pgr3, pdz, doa4, kameo and fightnight. Shadrack
Looks like I'll have to go for a screen upgrade soon then. I'll wait until there is a game that I have to have and only supports widescreen though. I think that all the demos are widescreen, where as the retail may very. The kameo demo was in widescreen, for instance. As for game selection goes, I think I made a good decision on dead or alive 4. For 1, it doubles as a soft core porn  . Seems like all the other games are either sports or FPS. I'll try graw but wasn't a big fan of the very first one. I feel like I've played through 100 FPS games on my PC already, and I'm really wanting something different for this new xbox i have.

You just made me laugh out loud. I am trying to purchase a 360 Premium & DOA4 at Target...I want to use my Target card so I can build up credit  But I think they're all out of stock :cry:
Shadrack
The demo for GRAW is amazing. I'll have to spring for that game next pay check. Hupp: the demo of GRAW played on my 5:4 display without any black bars. Check your console display settings, as there could be something wrong. I rented Battlefield 2, and it only supports 16:9 :(. I need a new, phatter, monitor.
