those screenshots must be from a WMP9 on an XP box.

whatever these "OBVIOUS" things are, i'm not seeing. so either you're full of crap, or i'm blind.

continue this argument amongst yourselves cuz i've lost interest

Well one last post then - or something. Just thought that ppl would be intrested to hear that installing this build with build 2848 already installed, doesn't give you a error and the application is installed but the build is still the same if you look in about...

.. and now on to the testing..

I had a minute just now so I thought I'd give it another go. This time I extracted the mpsetup.exe file (downloaded from the URL given in this thread) with Winzip to another directory. I'm checking the properties on each of the files and the file versions all end in 2799....

Can anybody help me to replace wmp9 v2848 for v2800??? I've tried a lot of things but non works...

Since v2799 I have a lot of problems (like the damn toolbar WMP that never worked), so I want to try out the v2800 (since it should be more stable).

P.S.: I've noticed that file dates for v2848 are far older than v2800 (I couldn't check with v2799), so I'm believing more and more that v2848 is fake!!!

Fake? Ummm... It can't be fake. It is definitely a version of WiMP and was definitely created by MS... Explain what you mean by "Fake"...

When I mean fake is... fake. :) I mean it could be an earlier version "masked" as 2848...

ok im confussed too, i know that this build (2800) is definately different to build 2848, and is more of a finished product.

what i am hearing is that the win2k version IS build 2799. but the XP beta is 2800 and thats the newer build. (thats obvious by looking at it, but not by its build number!)

think thats right, Phew! confusing. :alien:

Replacing 2848 with 2800 on XP only

Note: Make the original XP install source unavailable (remove cd or rename folder)

Run:

RunDll32 advpack.dll, LaunchINFSection %windir%INFwmp.inf, Uninstall.NT

May get wmp9.ocx msg, ignore. WFP message, click cancel.

Restart (important)

D/L 2800:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/win...S/mpsetupXP.exe

Extract to new folder using winzip/rar. Do NOT double click! WMP has been completely removed so it wont work.

Run:

RunDll32 advpack.dll, LaunchINFSection C:DownloadsmpsetupXPwmp.inf, DefaultInstall.NT5.1

(Change path if nessessary).

Maybe restart, run wmp now to finish setup.

Reinstall it then if u want to make sure its installed properly (usual dble click)

2800 has newer files than 2848 BTW.

Also that install method (the second run bit) may give the xp-only features on 2000 if anyone wants to try

well i tried 2800 on XP and it clears up most of my problems like playing wmv's asf's and divx files which wmp8 wouldn't play, .....

but for the benefit of M$ if they are still reading the boards ; WMP9 still stutters on wmv files, won't recognise stored asx on my pc (had to rename them to asf), seeker bar wont work most of the time, and doesn't always open on double click of a media file.

Ok... it's a beta... I created a restore point, tried it, thought it still sucked for now, and went back to wmp8, which for me works fine & [mostly] consistent. I'll wait until it goes final until I trust it.. and won't lose any sleep over that.

M$ - go fix ur buggy player.
