Whenever I close my eyes and try to visualize, the closest thing I can see to it is a faint outline over black. :pinch:

I've never considered there to be any alternative, but recently i've been questioned by a friend and she was very surprised at this, as she can see images as clear as real life in her head. So i'm wondering which is more common, being able to or not

Are you talking about remembering an incident or something like that or are you just trying to visualize something that you have heard about or read about? If it is something that happened to me or that I was involved in I can pretty much see it just like it happened. If I am reading about it or hearing about it, it's not quite the same but I am able to visualize some of the aspects.

I can see memories and creations of my imagination very realistically in my head.

When things are described, say in a book, how vivid it is really depends on how much effort I put into creating it.

i can see stuff in my head as clearly as i'd see stuff in real life :)

though, i have to mention that it's a more directed sight

as in in real life you have this WIIIIIDE view angle. in my head i only have a short clear view angle the rest is mostly outlines or just black :)

i can never "see" anything, i can think of how it looks in my head but its never like actually seeing something in real life.

That's exactly how it is for me.

I didn't realize that being that way was any different until we did a little thing in school with hypnotism using visualization and I was the only one that wasn't affected by it.

I've only been able to find one other person in the same situation when I ask around with people I know.

We're just special. :)

YES! that's exactly how my head works, kinda hard for me to describe things like this in words :s

Hmm... it depends on what I'm trying to visualize in my head. Generally anything I see in my head is like a 3d simulator of sort where I can spin things and flip them upside down or what not. There are other times when I can't really see something; instead, I just know how it looks (its properties, way it works, etc) :s

Then there are the typical visualizations where i can see the object (usually a person) as a picture of sorts... but most of the stuff i see works in the first two cases.

Makes for a powerful imagination when the first two are combined :)

i used to not be able to fantasize. now my fantansy and dreams are much more life like. it's pretty neat. i guess if you want something badly enough, it real feel real in your mind.

wooh weird, i can visualize events that have happened clearly, just as i can imagine things i want to happen i.e dreams such as fantasies  , when reading a book depends on the effort and the discription but like the harry potters when i was reading them 5 years ago i could picture these clearly :)

So if you can see an image in your minds eye clearly. That would make it easer for you to draw things right?

i can see almost as clear as vision.

sometimes if i look at a wall, then close my eyes and visualise it it can almost be confusing its that vivid. sometimes,

mostly its very vivid but not that much,

if it helps i am a very creative and arty person,

i personally beleive there are two types of people.

those that think mathematically and those that think creatively.

those that think mathematically tend not to see so vividly in their minds and vice versa.

I'm not sure what they call it but, I have a photographic memory. I can recall images in my head at random, well if its something I need.

i wish i had photographic memory, although i can recall really well as i said, i cant do it with text or anything of that sort.

did you know the mind (barring those with true photgraphic memory) cannot visually recall text properly while you dream,

it will shift and change and warp into different words, its just a limitation we have.

you cant read a book in your dreams, every time you blink it'd change.

This is how it is for me. I can see things but only concentrate on them for a certain amount of time. The image I see has clors but when I look at this image, my eyes stay still and I do not 'notice' anything in real life. I can imagine what it would be like but its still a faint image. When I stay on one image too long it fades away and my brain just decides to quit trying to make it, unless I force it of course. If I close my eyes I can concentrate on it ad revolve around it making anything I want in a 3-d world. I can not make it vivid though, altough I can make it as big and view it at any angle I can not make it a vivid picture.

The only vivid picture I get are boobies. Everything else is just out of focus... still trying to figure that out.
