tony-inpo
I have office 97 at the moment and really want to upgrade, but do you think it's worth waiting for 2007 (or whatever it's going to be called) to come out?
iSimx
I have both office 2003 and office 12. and I think office 12 is excellent and has better tools and personally think it looks better but office 2003 is still good.
markwolfe Veteran Posted April 18, 2006 Veteran Share Posted April 18, 2006 You might need to get a mod to fix your poll for you. You are asking an "2007 or 2003" question with a "yes or no" answer. :ermm:
betasp
We run (Office) XP here at work. I chose to skip the Office 2003 upgrade because I did not see a cost/benefit. We will be going to "Office 12" though. The XML based document formats of Office 12 will more than justify the expense.
one321
I'm assuming that the answer Yes is for Office 12 and answer No is for Office 11... If you do go out and buy Office 2003, make sure you get a really good deal. You are going to want to upgrade to Office 2007 when it comes out. I am in love with the beta since day 1 of testing. Possibly use OpenOffice until Office 2007 is released. It just sucks that we just don't know when MS is going to release these products with the Windows date getting pushed back and all. I know I can go grab a copy of Office 2003 from college for $10 so that's about the max I would spend on it right now.

runningking7
Office 2003 Pro is amazing. I'd buy it if I were you, but only if you have money since it's pricy.
P.M.K
I'd wait for 2007. It will be out before we know it.

P!P
I forgot people actually bought Office. Good Job. If you plan on upgrading to Vista, I'd wait for 2007. If you planning on staying with XP for a while, stay with 2003. I don't think there's going to be a lot of huge updates to wait for.
[bear]
most confusing poll ever. lol I'll be buying Office 2007 for the same 12 dollars that Office 2003 cost me under the University of Texas' academic agreement. lol.. :)
Malisk
From a general use point of view, I think you'll get clearly more than you'll need from Office 2003. :) It covers some very useful security improvements in Outlook and the new layout view. If it weren't for those, I could even just stick to Office XP.
lsdn
I've seen Office 2007 BETA in action. It's worth waiting for

Spielo
Depending on what you need it for, you might find that OpenOffice.org 2.0 more than suits your needs; it's certainly much better than Office 97 in any respect. It can read and write to Microsoft Office formats (DOC, XLS etc) and even export to PDF, and it's FREE! I'd definately try OpenOffice.org before buying anything, you might just find that it more than fits your needs. http://www.openoffice.org If you try OpenOffice and find that it doesn't have a feature that you need, I'd be inclined to wait for Office 2007 now. S_Herbie
I voted yes, you should wait for 2007 (unless you can get 2003 for a very good price) You may also want to consider the following - the time to upgrade can also depend on how you want to use the software and where you are using it. If you are using this at work get hold of a beta copy of 2007, this gives you plenty of time to test that all of your files / applications work in the new version. You wouldn't want to be in the situation of having shiny new software to play with and having to redevelop everything first! We use 2000 at work still, it does the job fine even though it's old... (Looking forward to upgrading after 2007 comes out!) If you are a home user I would still wait but would probably play with Open Office (or similar) in the meantime - I use 2003 at home and find that it does everything I need but will still probably upgrade to 2007 when it's released (funds permitting). There are lots of AJAX applications around at the moment - if you are a very light user these may fit the bill...
Koolslacker
I have used 2007 beta and I like it, but I don't like the change in the interface. I really hope MS comes up with a way so the user can decide to go with either the old fashioned menu system or the new ribbon system. I would go with 2003, because you will not have to pay as much and 2007 will be a lot more expensive when it comes out.

Echilon
"Should I go for a or b? Yes/No :p" Yes, as in wait for 2007. It's way better than 2003, although the latest beta still has loads of annoying bugs.
