MS close to buying Capcom

http://www.xboxgamers.com/newspro/fullnews...033171136,46666,

Rumours have been screaming around European offices today about a take-over of the Japanese-Behemoth Capcom, creators of 3 of the biggest selling PS2 games, Onimusha 1 and 2, Devil May Cry, and ?the? flagship Gamecube series, Resident Evil along with what is one of the biggest selling xbox games in Japan, Steel Battalion!

It seems that in the past few months, they have lost a considerable amount of money, despite releasing some of the biggest franchises onto the the market.

Microsoft has been touted as being the developer most likely to buying Capcom, with some reports stating that Microsoft have already been in talks with the front-man of the company.

Although this may seem incredibly unlikely to those ?not-in-the-know?, lets take a closer look. Several reports a couple of years ago, claimed that Microsoft was worth ?1/3 trillion and Mr Gates himself, worth between ?70-100 million. While these reports are pretty old now, with the numbers probably have risen from then, they do indicate that the xbox could have any developer it wants as a first party developer.

No, they show the Power. Look how many time it took to the PS to get all those games and MS buys all the studios to get down PS. XBOX is the best console ever and it needs games.

That's a witty come back....

But they are using the same business practice, I like M$ in the most part, but I don't like they remove my options for different products.

I own all three consoles, and so far, XBOX is my least favorite. Halo 2 will rule, as did Halo, but if they can only bring choice by removing games from other systems I like and use, they can blow me.

That'd suck big time....I want capcom games still to be released on the Sony and Game Cube consoles. It stinks that M$ is trying to buy up all the game developers to leave Sony and Nintendo with nothing.

Crys.....MegaMan, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry....no longer on Sony

MS will have the right to all the games because Capcom was not a part of any Gamecube or Sony company it was an independant 3rd party developer so MS can ultimately just stop the production of ANY games going to GC and Playstation 2 once it buys it...even if its 2 days from shipping...now that is pure ultimate satisfying evil:evil:

when PS2 came out Capcom had 5-10 games planned for it, when GC came out it had 10 games planned for it, when Xbox came out it had 1 exclusive game and that is steel battalion a 200 dollar game which is actually a sequel

Its because their technology is sad and their brand so weak that they have to buy developers to get any software.

XBOX 2 may change things on the tech front, but their brand still comes across as ever so lame in my eyes.

if it was the best console ever it wouldn't need games, they would already be there. M$ can buy up all the developers it wants, but without selling more of the base units it won't matter anyways.

Exactly....

Maybe they should have a contest to get some of those 'things' selling...

In one of the new Xbox console boxes will be Bill Gates toupee!

:s

All the kiddies will beg their mommies to buy them two xboxs then...

After a year Xbox's sales will be up near GameCube 2002 sales, and in 2005 (when PS3 comes out) Xbox's total sales will be near PS2 2002 total sales.

:devious:

Exactly. The XBOX doesn't sell very well, so they buy up software developers and make the games XBOX only. Sounds like M$ is already admitting defeat, and has moved on to some pretty shady business practices. Course this is M$ we are talking about...

Deep Breath...

It would not be in Capcom's interest to go exclusively Microsoft.

Capcom's main market is Japan - where the Xbox is an incredibly weak platform. Severing ties with Sony & Nintendo would damage Capcom considerably. I think they will stay multiplatform.

Having said that, it's not inconceivable that Microsoft spend mega bucks and buy an exclusive series for the Xbox.

This sadly would not save the Xbox from it's current state of Microsoft mediocrity.

The Microsoft brand (outside of the US) is not as popular as MS actually like to believe.

Sure, people accept that on their home PC they have very little choice if they want to run both 'game' and 'work' software.

However, in my spare time, the last thing I want to do is boot up another Microsoft cash point and feed Bill&Steve some more green, especially when the entertainment on offer is inferior to PS2(and GC).

Yes, I know Sony are just another 'mega corporation' but I have NEVER had a problem with a piece of Sony brand kit. I can't say that about MS brand products -- over the years Windows alone has done it's absolute best to accelerate my aging process. :)

Finally, keep with me here, their intrusion into the videogame market was largely unwelcome around the world and even more so in Japan. I fear unless HUGE changes occur this situation will never change.

Phew.

yes but if microsoft buys them then the choice will likely be not theirs. and if you think microsoft will buy a developer to suppoert another platform you've been riding the horse.
