Umbrello
I spoke a few words with Frank about this, but I'm still confused as to why this isn't incorporated. Being that I live in the US of A, normal time(1-12) is, well, normal for me as compared to military time. And I think most would be in agreement with me on this. It just makes it easier. Most other forums I visit have this feature, so why is there not an option for this under Board Settings?

AppleDave Veteran Posted May 6, 2006 Veteran Share Posted May 6, 2006 Agree, I think it should be implemented. I keep have to go okay 23:45...12+11=23...so its 11:45 got it.
Joel
And I think most would be in agreement with me on this. Most of who? It isn't just the military who use this, you know.
Slimy
I'm against switching to normal time, because it isn't "normal". It's just what north americans use. I live in Canada but the 24hr clock makes much more sense to me than the stupid pm/am crap. Oh ya, and the world isn't divided in to "the US" and "outside of US". ....
I am all for this. Military time is weird. It used to be normal, but they didn't change it back when we upgraded to 2.

Slimy
^ for those that are too lazy to click the link: The 24-hour clock is a convention of time-keeping in which the day runs from midnight to midnight and is divided into 24 hours, numbered from 0 to 23 (and 24 in the day-ending midnight). This system is the most commonly used time notation in the world of today. The United States and Canada are the only industrialized countries left in which a substantial fraction of the population is not yet accustomed to it. The 24-hour notation is in the US and Canada also referred to as military time, and (now only rarely) in the United Kingdom as continental time. It is also the international standard notation of time (ISO 8601).

I'm just placing a consensus on two of the poll's options in relation to where they live and what they voted for. I realize that there are more countries than just the US that use AM/PM time. oh yeah ps its not called mil-time its just called the the 24 hour clock It can also be referred to as military time. ninjakarl
1. No, military time is a lot easier to understand and causes a lot less confusion. 2. Why on earth is it divided into 'reside in the US' and 'reside outside the US', that's completely irrelevant.
AppleDave Veteran Posted May 6, 2006 Veteran Share Posted May 6, 2006 Okay, is it possible to give the user the option of military/world time and normal/12-hour time.
+M2Ys4U Subscriber¹ Posted May 6, 2006 Subscriber¹ Share Posted May 6, 2006 Leave it in 24 hour format, it's a lot less ambiguous. Just because you find it confusing doesn't mean it's not the better option (for the majority)
cooldude7273
Add it addition to the 24 hour clock (to keep non-americans happy), I think Neowin should take into consideration that some 300 million people arn't use to this clock! That's a large crowd that shouldn't be ignored!

MulletRobZ
Hell no! The 24 hour time is much better than having to put up with this AM/PM crap! If somebody goes 12-hour on me, I'm confused as heck! And just so you know, the French speaking populations in Canada (Qu?bec and New Brunswick) use it by default anyway! So it's English Canada and the US that have to adapt to the 24 hour option, not the other way around, as 24-hour time is what is used at all airports, train stations, and bus terminals (or at least in Canada, if not in the US)! Keito
I find it hard to believe people actually get confused by hours like... 14:32 or 23:52 (i.e. they don't know it's 2:32 and 11:52)... It's like... Dark outside at 23:something and stuff...[/rant] I prefer the 24-hours notation, because I'm all for standardization, next to that, it's more logical... why would it be 2 o'clock twice a day?! BGM
24 hour clock is, as has already been said in this thread, the standard method of displaying time... It is very simple to 'work out' the time, I used to do it by taking 2 from the 1st number and using the 2nd digit to see what the hour was... now its just natural I.e. 14:32 (14-2 = 12), therefore 2.32pm I think the people who struggle with this need to get with the program a bit and possibly do a bit of re-education
Axon
So it's 300 million vs. the other 5.7 billion? I think the rest of the world is the larger crowd. That's what I was thinking... -Ax

AppleDave Veteran Posted May 9, 2006 Veteran Share Posted May 9, 2006 Once again...why switch the whole thing to 12-hour clock? Why not give the user the option to pick between the two in the Control Panel.

That's what I was thinking. Why screw up one group of people at the sake of another? Just add and option and *POOF* everyone's happy.
