MEMO.

Yes, an army is mainly used for defense, but do you always solely defend your nation? You have to defend your interests, ally nations, etc. Take WWII as the perfect example. How would the US defend itself without attacking the axis powers and defending its allies?

Well the subject is debatable, there is a thin and very very blury line of the rights and wrongs in wars, What I am saying is that there is no reason to discriminate an army for being "only defensive". I agree about your comment about WW2, but, defend its "interests" is also very blurry. Like I said my comment is not about being or not being against war but I am bringing the fact that the main reason for an army to exist is defense.

sorry for the "offtopicnes" of my comments :p

While America no doubt has the most extensive military capabilities, America doesn't have the best reasons for using them, therefore discrediting the USA armed forces.

All the British have proven over the last few hundred years is that they really, really suck. Being the parent of all Western countries and then losing most of them to wars of independence is just a testament to how much their military is outgunned by in conflicts where it is not allied with any other force.

The Chinese have the biggest military in the world. It probably has the longest range, if you discount America. However, it has a long tradition of bad military strategy, leading it to lose virtually every conflict it's participated in. However, in terms of raw capability, China's probably got the most. They've got a bottomless well to draw soldiers from, and due to their Communist regime most of them are still quite loyal and patriotic.

The USA have 300,000 soldiers. The Chinese have 2 MILLION.

Canada (Y)

We may not have near as much equipment as the U.S. but the soldiers are well trained to use a vast number of tools.

Every year, Canadian soldiers go to Florida and probably other cities to practice at U.S. Military bases and from what I hear (Of course, from the Canadian soldier's POV), many perform as well as the american soldiers.

There really shouldn't be any argument about it if your talking military advancement...US then UK. But if your talking strength in numbers, China is No.1.

The US doesn't really have to deploy any troops, if they didn't want to, to win a battle.

#1 I said the Chinese because they are spending billions upgrading their tech, plus there's strength in numbers and that army is just f'n huge.

#2 I'm not sure, I'd say America but I'm betting if we had to fight against someone like China or the British in our current state, we would get our ass kicked big time. I guess I'll say British for #2.

I don't know.

If you are talking about disciplines, then it would be Taiwan by my guess.

If you are talking about fitness, then possibly US.

If you are talking about strength by number, then China.

If you are talking about tactics, then Australia as there aren't many soldiers who were killed by enemies except they shot themselves.

that's enough if  ...No 1 by my vote is German..No 2 US..

I would have to say the British first as they have fought in wars for over 300 years and they were quite good during World War I and II in defending Queen and country. Second was a bit hard but I would have to choose the Japanese as their loyalty to their Emperor was the catalyst for the way they fought, which was to defend their country to the death.

Canada trains the world's best snipers :p

Military wise, the U.S.A wins for the time being.

EDIT: Oh wait, excluding technology.....I'm not sure but it'll be one of those asian countries.

usa then israel.

whose the douche that voted japan?

LOL the soldiers the japanese have are mostly the ones that protect U.S bases in japan- and they are trained by the usa. The others just do nothing but peacekeaping.

"Okinawa now hosts over half of the 40,000 US troops in Japan and three-quarters of the US military facilities.

The troops are stationed under an alliance forged after Japan lost World War II and was forced to renounce the means of war.

A law revised after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States allows Japanese troops -- known as the Self-Defense Forces -- to use force to protect US military bases."

Actually, the answer is: The country from which the soldiers do not question the orders of their commanders has the best soldiers.

The current record for a sniper kill is a Canadian.

From Wikipedia:

The current record for longest range sniper kill is 2430 metres (7,972 ft), accomplished by a Canadian sniper, of the third battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI), during the invasion of Afghanistan, using a .50 BMG (12.7 mm) McMillan bolt-action rifle.

2 1/5 km, bloody hell

Total bs. Some commanders are insane...

How much weight does that "thing" actually have when deciding which country has the best soldiers...pshhh There are much more significant factors involved.

Americas, i can't imagine them losing to anyone

This entirely depends on if we talk about soldiers on their own (= humans fighting in a war), or soldiers with the entire war machinery and technology behind them. Americans are not really different than Russians, Chinese, or Japanese if we're just talking about the people, but I agree that USA is perhaps technologically superior than these. (but it's really hard to tell for sure how things would turn out when we involve everything from soldiers to atomic bombs)

American soldiers shoot at everything that moves. Including Coalition convoys.

... and the Canadians make fun of their emenies mishaps, till the enemy die from laughing at the pettyness?

I'd say Israel has the best troups, and finest assasination squads.

quite rightly so, end of the day who fought the ussr, america or afghanistan. i dint see no american soldier in the frontline.

and

iran are probably second to israel in terms of military strength. partly because american tax dollars fund the israel army, how much is it anually $2billion, 30% of the foerign budget.

Colombia ought to be the best soldiers in the world, experts in guerilla combat in rain forest ,far more difficult than urban warfight (case of irak for example),si in my opinion neither america, britain, or israel can match this,we train american spacial forces here.

French!? ROFLMFAO!

I wouldn't be so quick to downplay the French military, its a common trend these days to do that (for some reason) but I'm sure they can pack quite a punch.
