SuSE 10.1 Gold Master - FiNAL

Miuku.

As stated, SuSE 10.1 has been released in an official form. I suggest downloading it via Torrent to minimize the hammering on the FTP sites.

www.opensuse.org is being seriously hammered so try to avoid accessing it as it will give a timeout.

Intel / AMD i386 - 32 bit architecture

http://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribu...GM-i386.torrent

Intel / AMD x86_64 - 64 bit architecture

http://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribu...-x86_64.torrent

PowerPC architecture

http://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribu...-GM-ppc.torrent

The GM in the name refers to Gold Master which is the same version that was sent to pressing - in other words it is 100% Final - I have personally downloaded the distribution via the 32 bit torrent and installed it successfully.

Is this a good time to tell you it took me about 20-25 minutes to download all 5 images and the extra Bi-Arch? *hides*

Anyway, it was around one Winning Eleven game and a cup of coffee :p

Perhaps there is an FTP mirror nearby you - where do you live?

Opensuse site is again operational - perhaps you can get some better rates from there?

When installing 10.0, you had the opportunity to install the official nvidia drivers and MS fonts at the end of the installation process.. But when installing 10.1 there were no such options.. Does anyone know why and how I can install them instead?

Hmmmm...... I suspect that there will soon be repositories (like Packman) that will have these things. SuSE 10.1 is so new at this point that they might ot be set up yet. I am surprised that they are not offered as part of the CD set. I think that if you actually used the purchased set of CDs as opposed to the free download, these drivers and other programs would be included.

Have a looksee in these addresses:

How to make a DVD instructions:

Latest "Make SUSE dvd" script:

Unfortunately the Wiki seems to be still down as there is some massive hammering on the SuSE servers and Wikis aren't really designed for that kind of pounding. (One of the US backbones was congested due to people downloading it.. I guess it's popular now).

Everything is popular when it comes out, due to the distro-######.

I even participate in torrents for distros I don't use - just leave it up for others to grab. (Y)

Yes, you can update 10.0 to 10.1. Use the update system option when running the install.

All 5 CD ISOs can be combined using makeSUSEdvd to make a dvd ISO. Optionally, the 'Extras' CD can be lumped in as well if you want the DVD image to contain the non-OSS content. I did, and it worked well.

MS Core fonts is something more than a few people are wondering about. It's not on the update servers right now, but it may be there soon. No word on if this is just rumor or not. People who dual-boot can just import whatever they like at will though.
