Ever think that your connection is going way to sl

Ever think that your connection is going way to slow?

Well, there's a way to fix it(maybe or maybe not)

Some windows is not configure correctly for some connection speed, so here ill post up a tutorial I made to use 100% of your connection and do some improvements.

*NOTE*

Remember to backup your registry before doing this, just in case this doesn't work for you

First, take this speed test: http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and save your result

1. Download this: http://rapidshare.de/files/19820943/TCPOptimizer.rar.html

In order to open it, you need WinRar

WinRAR 3.60 beta 2: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar36b2.exe

2. Now go to this website: http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php (Hopefully your using Internet Explorer or Firefox right?)

3. Now open TCPOptimizer.exe

4. On Connection Speed **** (Kbps), make it on your advertise speed.

Ex: I am currently using SBC Yahoo DSL Basic, the advertise speed is 1500 KBps, if you don't know your advertise speed, call your ISP and ask them. So, back to what I was saying, my advertise speed is 1500 Kbps so ill set it as 1500 Kbps

http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/5831/blackshadow0fp.jpg

5. Now go back to the website http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php and look at your MTU, now go back to the TCPOptimizer.exe and set it as what it says on the website.

Ex: Mine says MTU: 1492 http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/1655/blackshadow8ea.jpg

Now ill go back to the TCPOptimizer.exe and set it as 1492, http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1102/blackshadow1tk.jpg

6. TCP Receive Window, just leave that alone since it already did it for you when you set your Connection Speed **** (Kbps)

7. MTU Discovery: Yes

8. Black Hole Detect: No

9. Selective ACKs: Yes

10. Max Duplicate ACKs

Windows XP & Windows 2k= 2

Windows 98 or later=0

11. Time to live

Windows XP= 128

Windows 2K and the rest =68

Now click on Apply Changes and reboot your computer

and retake the test again: http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Now post your results here!

Ex:

Before

Download Speed: XXXX kbps (XXXX KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: XXX kbps (XXX KB/sec transfer rate)

(Note, I don't remember my old results so I replaced the numbers with X's)

After

Download Speed: 1287 kbps (160.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 316 kbps (39.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

*NOTE*

Copied and pasted from another post and I was the original poster/maker of the tutorial

Before:

Download Speed: 5042 kbps

Upload Speed: 370 kbps

After:

Download Speed: 2230 kbps

Upload Speed: 414

Restored Reg:

Download Speed: 4842 kbps

Upload Speed: 373 kbps

What happened here?

Well you guys are prob doing something wrong, as I posted on many other forums, everything worked out great, I helped boosted this guy speed from 150KBps to 350KBps

This stuff never works. Why wouldn't Windows XP be optimised in the first place? All you get from this stuff is a placebo effect. Better to stay away from these registry edits in my opinion.

By the way, in the topic, it's 'too', not 'to'.

I kind of have my doubts about this so-called tutorial, especially coming from someone who starts off with Some windows is not configure correctly for some connection speed. Really, can't people atleast try to use correct grammar?

That's the exact reason why I'm not going to do this!

Meh, wrote this at a fast paste because I am to lazy

But if you do not believe me then here are some sites that will give you a longer tutorial:

http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php

Its pretty much common sense, so for those that still don't understand it don't try bothering with me

If you got problems with my grammar then **** off me, I just type w/o re-reading it

Did you reboot your computer afterwards?

Sure did. Done it twice, still no good. I'll just let windows optimize it the way it wants.

Good job, keep that mentality and you'll have people actually taking you seriously in no time. I tried both of these and it made my connection worse. Both of them didn't report my speed results correctly, under linux and windows. It's garbage. Period. Don't tell me I'm doing it wrong, because I actually know what I'm doing.

BlackShadow, not to put down your tweak, but myself, I'm, a big proponent of using Cablenut to adjust my settings. Like the pagefile, many people will differ in their preferences.

I too am using SBC Yahoo DSL. These are all the settings I made using Cablenut. I put them into a handy registry file. Underneath it is an "UNDO" registry file to revert things back to their defaults.

Do your PCPitstop test. Apply the reg file settings ONLY FOR DSL connections with 1500 download speeds, and then return to PCPitstop. Run your test again.

Folks with Cable or Dialup connections should use the settings Cablenut provides. But you can copy this registry file and insert your own settings provided by Cablenut.

I haven't updated the guide for a while and i'm not sure is this the updated one =P

WinRAR 3.60 beta 8: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar36b8.exe

2. Now go to this website: http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php (Hopefully your using Internet Explorer or Firefox right?)( and don't close this window!)

3. Click "Start" and when it finish click on "Results"

4. For "Service" choose your service, for "Speed (advertised) kbit/s" put your advertising speed (Ex: 5MBit=5000kbit/s), for "Operating System" choose your system, and for "Connection" choose your connection( Ex: Cable=Normal|||DSL=Normal|||Router+DSL=RouterPPPoE

5. Now open TCPOptimizer

6. Click on "Custom Settings"(Bottom right corner) now go back to the http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php to your results. For "TCP Recieve Window" put in as what it says under "Notes and recommendations:" (Ex: if it say someting like "Choose RWIN between 10164 and 26136" choose the highest one, which is 26136). Where it says "Max packet sent (MTU):###" Set that number on your "MTU", now click on "Advanced Settings" and go to LAN Browsing speedup and set it as "optimized". Click on "Apply Changes" and "OK" and reboot your computer

7. Black Hole Detect: No

8. Selective ACKs: Yes

9. Max Duplicate ACKs

Windows XP & Windows 2k= 2

Windows 98 or later=0

10. Time to live

Windows XP= 115

Windows 2K and the rest =68

and retake the test again: http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Now post your results here!

Ex:

Before

Download Speed: XXXX kbps (XXXX KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: XXX kbps (XXX KB/sec transfer rate)

(Note, I don't remember my old results so I replaced the numbers with X's)

After

Download Speed: 1287 kbps (160.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 316 kbps (39.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

"Ekasra: Golly Gee, my torrent speeds went from 30kbs to 130kbs on low seeded torrents. Black Shadow is my hero"

"buckguerra: This tweak showed me that I wasent receiving the best connection possible from my cable company. It doubled my connection speed and i recommend it to everyone!"

FAQ

-Q. Hey, I did this tweak and didn't see any difference from before and after, why?

-A. Its because your computer was already tweaked in the first place

-Q. I cannot go online anymore when I applied this tweak, why?

-A. I have no idea what you did but this tweak in any way CANNOT disable your internet

By the way, there is no way of "tweaking" your upload rate, only download.
