Indeo and Microsoft Windows XP

With the September 2002 update to Windows XP (known as Service Pack 1), Microsoft is no longer distributing any version of the Indeo codecs with its operating system. This only affects users with new PCs that are shipping with Windows XP Service Pack 1, or clean installs of Windows XP SP1 on an older system. Installation upgrades of SP1 and the use of Windows Update does not remove existing Indeo codecs from your system. In the meantime, Ligos will continue to make Indeo 3.2, 4.5, & 5.1 video, and the 2.5 Audio codecs through this website. Indeo Video 5.1, however, is not currently certified to operate correctly on Windows XP systems.

Please note that this was Microsoft's decision alone, as Ligos honors any legacy Indeo Distribution Agreements between Intel and other parties. Questions and comments should be directed to Microsoft through one of their support channels.

um no you didn't.

warcraft3 movies are in DIVX format. if your system doesn't have divx5 filter warcraft3 isntaller will install one.

and like you said, codec isn't removed during install so what are you crying about?!

and EVEN if your system doesn't have Indeo codec, when you play a file that uses media player will download decodec automaticaly.

and beside, how the hell still uses that crappy codec?!

No, it won't download, I'm staring at a message that says "go to ligos website" to download, then you have to pay.

No one might still use this "crappy" codec but old programs do... so if you have a program that needs Indeo on a CD which was created in 1998 and tried to run it and it whines that it can't play the movies because there is no indeo codec installed... then thats where the issue lies.
