Avoid VoIP block?

Question

Guest whybkuul

Hey folks, I'm tryin to figure out if there's any way to get around a block that my ISP is going to implement 1 Jul. Apparently the South Korean gov't has declared all unregistered VoIP providers will be blocked. I'm curious if there's any way to circumvent this block. I'm not completely savvy on how VoIP works, other than the router translating the voice into packets to send over the net. The only idea I've been able to get is set up like a ssh tunnel to run that traffic through. I've spoken with vonage and they've indicated that the port setup is on their end, so it's not an option for me to just change the port number if that's the way the ISP blocks it. Anyway, appreciate any help.

if your government is implimenting the block, getting around it would deem illegal.

Heck with that, it's not my government. I'm U.S. military, stationed over here unfortunately. I don't worry about the legality, I'm more concerned with if it's possible or not.

It's probably possible, one way or another. A tunnel would be an excellent choice, assuming they allow tunnelling protocols.
