AdiumX 1.0b8

Recommended Posts

They finally officially released a beta of AdiumX (i know you can use the SVN but lot's of people don't want to bother with that)

1.0b1 - Tuesday, July 4, 2006 ?

Note: Backing up a copy of the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/ before using betas or alphas is probably a good idea.

Known issues

* Larger download size due to the inclusion of debugging info

* May have issues receiving some ICQ messages

* May have an irregular crash on Mac OS X 10.3.9 in the log viewer

* Other smaller things as listed on the trac roadmap page

Most noticable changes

* Major AIM, ICQ and .Mac improvements. This includes working File Transfer, and faster sign on.

* Improvements to the default look and feel of Adium.

* iTunes integration is much faster, and updates as soon as the song changes.

* Added global user profile and buddy icon settings. (Personal Preferences)

* General Account improvements. Accounts can now be disabled when not in in use, and friends can now sign on from your Adium without saving their information.

* Added an Xtras manager to better handle browsing and removing Xtras.

* Major improvements in privacy settings.

* Redesigned Previous Chat (Log) Viewer

* Requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later (Universal Binary)

* Full (VERY LARGE) changelog can be found here

Does it still randomly disconnect you without telling you anything? All of the SVN builds I've tried have done that. Basically, after about an hour, I'll notice that the same exact people are on. No one signs on, no one's disconnected. And no one is responding to my IM's. I log out and back in, and the list looks completely different, as if the old one was frozen in time :). Ah, hell, I'll try this one out anyway.

libgaims fault, not adiums

How do other unofficial clients enable you to use webcam then.

Clients like aMSN don't use the libgaim framework. Since they're also pretty specialized to a specific protocol, it gives the devs a lot of time to focus on the little extras like webcams and audio conferences.

EDIT: and yea, I'm still ghosting. Took a look at the debug for JOSCAR, and it shows: Status: NOT_CONNECTED.

Meanwhile, I see myself as online while others do not.

Which unofficial clients are you talking about in particular? They most likely include their own "cam code".

the adium team have asked people NOT to post information about the betas on new sites etc...

i think a mod should close this thread and delete it.

Oh come on don't be so melodramatic. There aren't that many Mac users here. I can understand if it was posted on MacNN forums or something. A thread like this would have already gained 20-30 pages by now.

the difference is that we understand that it's a beta. Your average downloader from VersionTracker or something probably downloads it, goes 'wow this thing is useless and full of bugs' then goes crying to the Adium team because he doesn't understand that it's a beta and that bugs etc. are to be expected.
